For 2005, Aston Martin’s top-end model goes even more upscale, with the Vanquish being joined by the Vanquish S (for Sport). Although they share a 6.0-litre V12, the S model develops 520 horsepower (compared to 460 hp) and a top speed of more than 321 km/h, making it the fastest Aston Martin road car in history.
The all-alloy engine is mated to a six-speed manual gearbox with an auto shift manual/select shift manual electro-hydraulic control system, which can be shifted with wheel-mounted paddles. A limited-slip differential is standard.
Both models come very well equipped with leather interior, power heated seats, air conditioning, six-CD changer, remote central locking system with alarm and immobilizer, tire pressure sensor, automatic rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlamps, auto-dimming rear-view mirror, battery disconnect switch, and 19-inch lightweight forged aluminum alloy wheels.
The Vanquish S received a Sports Dynamics package as standard equipment, with stiffer springs and dampers, shorter steering arms, and larger brakes with floating discs, six-piston front callipers and high performance brake pads.
Possibly one of the world’s most beautiful cars, the Vanquish is also an enthusiast’s dream, coddling front passengers in delightful luxury. The 2+2 configuration means that the rear seat is there mostly to use up a bit more leather upholstery rather than take on passengers. The Vanquish was already Aston Martin’s fastest car, and the S is just icing on the cake, with suspension, steering and brakes engineered alongside to make sure it all goes exactly where it’s intended to go. Sure, it’s expensive, but just try to tell yourself you haven’t earned it.
