Fans of long roof VWs rejoice! Golf Wagon destined to arrive on Canadian shores next year.
UPDATE: The new wagon version is officially called Volkswagen Golf Sportwagon and will go on sale in March 2015.
The Golf Wagon will definitely be back next year in Canada. And that will be its official name in our country, regardless of what it is called elsewhere.
The long roof Golf, with the 107hp TDI BlueMotion diesel ~140hp TDI Clean Diesel, is expected to get 3.3l/100km better than the current 4.6l/100km highway via a 6-speed manual. Inside, there will be more cargo room with the rear seats up or down, with everything else staying the same as a hatchback Golf.
While Europeans will get a choice of 4MOTION all wheel drive or front wheel drive, don’t expect AWD to be an option on our shores, as the plant in Mexico set to produce the Golf Wagon is not setup to build AWD versions.
As for the Golf GTD (think diesel GTI), Volkswagen Canada’s Thomas Tetzlaff states the “GTD is still in the ‘wish’ category, but we are pushing hard on this one.”
