If you were planning on buying yourself a brand-new 2016 Nissan Pathfinder Hybrid, or two, next year, we’ve just received word that you can’t.
The short-lived hybrid variation of Nissan’s Pathfinder, released in late 2013 as a 2014 model year, never seemed to quite gain a foothold in the market. Which market? Any market unfortunately. In theory, the 4WD, four-cylinder, supercharged, 2.5L, hybrid Pathfinder was a fantastic idea. Packing a combined output of 250 hp (just 10 hp less than its 260-hp equipped V6 sibling) and 243 lb-ft of torque (that’s 3 more lbs than the 240 lb-ft the V6 put out).
Buyers of the hybrid could expect to see 12.4 L/100km city; 8.7 L/100km highway; and 9.0 L/100km combined. That’s a significant savings over the gasoline sibling at: 12.4 L/100km city; 9.4 L/100km highway; and 11.2 L/100km combined.
As far as pricing goes went, buyers would have to shell out $39,428 plus destination for a Pathfinder Hybrid SV (4WD was standard), while the gasoline SV 4WD could be had for $35,248 plus destination.
Jennifer McCarthy at Nissan Canada tells us: “Nissan no longer offers the Pathfinder Hybrid in the 2015 line up as today’s SUVs are more fuel efficient than before and thus bridge the gap between hybrid and conventional powertrains.
On the other hand, Nissan wanted to reduce the complexity of the Pathfinder line-up so that dealers can offer the right product at the right place at the right time.”
