After the Swedes leaked the first peek at the V90 wagon version of the S90, the Germans surprised us with a leak of the what Mercedes-Benz has in store for the Detroit auto show. Turns out we’ll be getting more of the same with the new 2017 E-Class.
If you get a dejà vu feeling with this new generation of the E-Class, you’re not alone: it looks a lot like a C-Class. And the S-Class. If you like the anthropomorphic look of Mercedes’ new headlamps, you will be glad to know that the new E-Class will also receive the double LED strip, human-eye looking light design. Auto-press.de explains that the new-gen luxury sedan will be offered with diesel and gasoline, four- and six-cylinder powertrain options and even a plug-in hybrid variant, another player joining in the luxury hybrid trend.
At this point though, we can only speculate about what the actual specs of the new North American Mercedes-Benz E-Class will be, as the car is scheduled to be unveiled (or at least launched, at this point) in Detroit next week. That being said we’re going to go out on a limb to say it will follow the C-Class’s turbo 3.0L V6 lineup, with an AMG version sure to follow, but we are curious to see if they stick with four-cylinder diesel power as with the current-generation E 250 Bluetec, or bump up to the V6 as in the GLE 350d.
