Mitsubishi dealers across Canada have begun to offer a certified pre-owned (CPO) vehicle program, the Japanese manufacturer’s latest attempt to drive traffic to quiet showrooms.
As with other automakers’ CPO arrangements, vehicles sold under Mitsu’s CPO banner undergo an inspection and reconditioning process, and include an exchange privilege, but Mitsubishi says its long 10-year/160,000 powertrain warranty gives the new CPO program a competitive edge and “distinguishes (the company) in the Canadian marketplace,” said Tony Laframboise, Mitsu Canada’s VP of sales and marketing. That warranty is transferable to CPO buyers, but the program doesn’t add any coverage top-up. However, buyers can extend the bumper-to-bumper (comprehensive) warranty by up to 80,000, or four years, augmenting what remains of the five-year/100,000-km coverage Mitsubishi cars come with from the factory.
The rest of the Mitsubishi CPO details look like this:
-160-point inspection (126 points for the i-Miev electric car);
-12-month key/key fob replacement coverage;
-10-day/1,500-km exchange privilege;
-CarProof vehicle history report;
-90-day free satellite radio subscription (on cars with satellite radio capability)
John Arnone of Mitsubishi Canada says all of its 91 dealers are eligible to sell CPO cars, and the company expects most will be part of the program by the time it’s fully underway in Spring 2016.
