Frankfurt, Germany – Mercedes-Benz has presented five debuts at the Frankfurt Motor Show: the new E-Class Estate, SLS AMG, S400 Hybrid, Vision S 500 Plug-In Hybrid, and Concept BlueZERO E-CELL PLUS electric car.
The E-Class Estate wagon, celebrating its world premiere, is available with a choice of three diesels and two gasoline engines, including the E220 CDI BlueEFFICIENCY and E350 BlueEFFICIENCY, both of them exemplifying excellent efficiency and environmental compatibility.
The Vision S 500 Plug-In Hybrid is a close-to-production prototype and offers a fuel consumption of 3.2 litres of gasoline per 100 kilometres, and an electric-only range of 30 km, while the BlueZERO E-CELL PLUS, also a close-to-production prototype, uses a three-cylinder rear-mounted range extender that functions as an electric generator, charging the battery while driving and enabling a total range of 600 km, approximately 100 of them electric and therefore emissions-free.
The new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG has also celebrated its world premiere in Frankfurt, boasting a unique design, extensive lightweight construction and safety. A lightweight aluminum space frame body shell with gull-wing doors is matched with an AMG 6.3-litre V8 front mid-engine, with an output of 571 horsepower and seven-speed dual-clutch transmission. The car accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, with a top speed of 317 km/h.
Mercedes-Benz also presented the technology for an electric-drive SLS AMG with an emissions-free, high-tech driveline. Four electric motors produce a combined maximum torque of 649 lb-ft of torque. The “electric” gullwing will do zero to 100 km/h in around four seconds, putting it on the same level as the conventionally-powered AMG 6.3-litre V8 engine.
