Strike triggered by union official being “walked out” by company
A wildcat strike was triggered yesterday at GM’s CAMI assembly plant in Ingersoll, Ontario after a union member was “walked out” of the facility, reports QMI.
A dispute arose between Unifor 88 plant chair Mike van Boekel and plant management over an unspecified reason. The worker walkout began at 5 pm and a settlement was agreed to between the union and management in a short timeframe, resulting in workers returning to the assembly line by 7:30 pm.

Van Boekel said that as part of the settlement with the company, he would not comment further on the incident.
But a worker at the plant said the incident started in the morning when Van Boekel was raising a concern with a plant supervisor and was ordered to leave the plant along with another union official.
Van Boekel was CAMI bargaining committee chairperson in September of last year when a new four-year deal was approved by 90 percent of Unifor Local 88 members at the plant.
