Hardcore Shelby gets rid of everything that’s not needed to drop 130 lb.
As part of the performance trifecta from Ford revealed at the North American International Auto Show, the Blue Oval had one last trick up its sleeve to take back the racetrack from the Camaro Z/28.
The new Mustang GT350R (revealed alongside the new Ford F-150 Raptor and Ford GT) arrived in the arena (literally) stripped out. Everything that wasn’t needed in order to go faster was thrown in the bin — approximately 60 kg (130 lb) worth of equipment in total.
Powered by the same 5.2L flat-plane crankshaft V8 engine as the standard GT350, the new hardcore model does without all creature comforts, such as a rear-view camera and air conditioning, to make a true track-bound sports car.
The GT350R will go on sale later this year in Canada with an undisclosed price tag. But, availability will likely be limited, so you better head down to the local Ford store now if you plan on getting one in the fall.
