As part of Cadillac’s evolution of the brand’s naming convention, Cadillac has just confirmed that the SRX will officially become the XT5 when it debuts early in the 2016 calendar year.

Along with the new name announcement, Cadillac have also announced the entire lineup of 2016 models will get a major infotainment upgrade with significant upgrades to the CUE system and the integration of Apple’s CarPlay and Google’s Android Auto. The SRX will retain the current CUE system until the release of the XT5.

Apple CarPlay will launch first for the 2016 vehicles, while Android Auto joins the lineup shortly thereafter. Both systems integrate your smartphone with the vehicle’s infotainment unit and will require the use of a USB connection as opposed to solely relying on Bluetooth.

If you’d prefer to keep your smartphone and car separate, the improvements to the CUE system will include a more powerful processor, better voice recognition, improved navigation searches and a shorter startup time.
