Billed the “sportiest C-Class ever” the new Mercedes-AMG C 63 Coupe debuted Tuesday in Frankfurt. The AMG-tweaked iteration of the C-Class Coupe is a stunner, with flared wheel arches and a wider stance courtesy of increased track giving it an uber-tough visage. One that is thankfully backed up by a serious, 4.0L bi-turbo V8 with either 476 hp or 510 depending on its configuration.
In Canada, we’re likely to get the full-beans S version only, with the complete 510 hp on tap to vault its 1,800 kg of mass to 100 km/h in 3.9s. If you don’t panic, cry and button off immediately the C 63 will keep going all the way to a speed limited 250 km/h – which becomes 290 km/h with the AMG Driver’s Package.
Mercedes gives the wider tires (255 mm front/285 mm back) and shorter final drive ratios credit for the car being just a shade quicker to 100 than its four-door equivalent. The C 63 Coupe is also 15 mm shorter than the sedan, giving it a more squat appearance.
The AMG model also gets dynamic engine mounts, a limited-slip rear differential and AMG Ride Control with electronically controlled dampers, plus the AMG Speedshift seven-speed DCT gearbox.
For those of a more subtle nature, the C 300 4Matic gets a 241 hp/273 lb-ft 2.0L turbo four mated to the 9G-Tronic gearbox.
Airmatic suspension is available as an optional extra on the C 300 as is Advanced Driving Assistance Package with Distronic Plus featuring Steering Assist, Active Blind Spot & Lane Keeping Assist,Rear Collision Mitigation System, BAS Plus with Cross-Traffic Assist, Pre-Safe Brake & Pre-Safe Plus for rear-end collisions
The C 300 4Matic Coupe will be available in Quarter 2 of 2016 with the AMG C 63 Coupe coming in Q3.
