Second generation small hatchback would slot below Verano

Buick has made a habit of leveraging vehicles from European brand Opel to sell in North America with the tri-shield affixed to the grille. As we saw at the North American International Auto Show, Buick is about to get another model from Opel’s lineup — the Cascada Convertible — though that particular car won’t be coming to Canada.

But, Duncan Aldred, U.S. vice president of Buick and GMC, might have another model more suited to Canadian tastes to sell as a Buick: the Opel Adam.

According to Automotive News, Buick is looking to adopt the Adam to its entry-premium lineup.

“I’ve looked at the possibility of fast-tracking that into the Buick range sooner than later,” Aldred said in a recent interview. “I think it would make a great Buick.”

While the current Adam is bound to European sale due to engineering not satisfying U.S regulations, the second generation of Opel’s microcar will likely be engineered with North American sale in mind. The car could arrive on our shores as early as 2018 if it follows its normal product cycle timeline.
