Agreed.  Turbo belongs in Subarus and hot hatches, not in muscle cars.

Oh really?  The next GT500 is going to have a turbocharged V8.

So that's garbage you say?   :stick:
of course not...i think he means a turbo 4.

as i said, it sounded good for that kind of sound, it just doesn't sound right for a Mustang...if it were a Golf, Nissan Sentra SR, etc, it would have been pretty nice...but in a Mustang??...no.
When you've lost the argument, admit defeat and hit the smite button.

That blown 6.2L in the ZL-1 and Z-06 sounds fantastic!

Oh, of course that too.  Thank you!

4-banger turbos belong in hot hatches IMO.  But I can see why they're being offered: theoretical better fuel economy, less weight, etc.  But one of the main reasons for getting a Mustang is the sound.

Sounds better than GT350 @ 8,250 RPM?

The GT350 and ZL-1 sound different.  Both awesome.

Photoshoot w/ a friend + 2nd impressions
« Reply #85 on: October 02, 2017, 02:36:42 pm »
Went to do a photoshoot with a friend last Saturday.

I love this last picture.

My car has 15% tints on the rear 3 windows.  Buddy's is 25% all around.

Few gripes:
- Transmission thumps when it's cold.
- Side-view mirrors are too small.  Virtually there is zero visibility from the rear 3/4 of the vehicle.  Huge blind spots coupled with small side mirrors means that needing a blind-spot monitoring system along w/ rear cross-traffic alert is mandatory.
- The Shaker stereo isn't the best.  I wouldn't upgrade to this if I had a choice.

Few surprises:
- The Pirelli All Seasons are actually not bad.  I thought I'd have to replace them with something better but they've handled the rain really well.
- Rear cross-traffic alert has already saved me from a sure-fire accident (parking lot) as I was parked next to an SUV and couldn't see due to the C-pillar.
- I may end up daily driving this car year-around as it is next to impossible to get the rear-end to shake loose in normal mode.

My previous Miata didn't have any traction control or stability system, so it was relatively easy to have a bit of fun by swinging out the rear.  Not so with the Mustang.  I've not been in track or sport+ mode (yet) as I'm still learning the capabilities of the vehicle.  With winter fast approaching and snow on the horizon, I'm not yet ready to put this car away.

Will I be crazy to daily drive this during winter?

Absolutely.  Everyone knows it is certain death if you don't have AWD for winter.   :P

Looks awesome in white.

It will be fine in the winter provided you have quality winter tires, common sense and basic driving skill.  I have done the Mustang GT thing in the winter and it is nowhere near as bad as people say.

This.

Back in the mid 90's I had a Jeep Comanche pick up.  A light truck that directed all its 4.0L 190hp to the rear wheels.
It had a fairly fat set of Goodyear Eagles, all was good as long as pavement was dry.
If it rained - was a handful.
If it snowed - LOL.  Call a cab.

I got tired of that fast and put a set of decent snows on it.  I'm still amazed when I think back what a difference they made.

a couple cars ago, i had a Grand Marquis that i drove year round...no, no Mustang GT, but decent power nonetheless, directed to the rear wheels, which were wearing plain all season rubber...never had any problems...sure, our Sorento with winter rubber and AWD is beast like in the snow, but it's not like you're guaranteed to die without it.

I totally missed this. That's a beautiful car.
I've seen a few one the road, but that one looks the best.

I grew up on V8 RWD cars, one being a Mustang GT.  With snow tires it was doable.  Was it fun?  No.  Once you get a tast of a higher performance AWD car, it is hard to go back.  Who say's winter driving can't be fun AND safe?
Pffft, please nothing awd in the Mustangs price range is as enjoyable or badass.

Moved the goal posts.  You said in the same price range (STI isn't a hatch).

Anyhow, the SS Camaro is vastly more badass in that price range.

Oh yeah, the Camaro is better...but we were talking about the Mustang vs some awd compacts, there is no way you can tell me the wannabe rally cars can hold a candle to a pony car??

I love both the pony cars (Mustang, Camaro) and the hot turbo screamers like the Focus RS and STi.  They're different cars that deliver amazing performance in different ways.  Is one type better?  I don't think so.  Different.

Great pics!

Gripes:
- mine thunks all of the time, 1st->2nd gear
- agree on the stereo.  I swapped the front tweeters and rear speakers and added a subwoofer and it's better.

Surprises:
- the Pirelli's are decent; mine are the 18" versions.  I put them on when the temps drop, just before I store the car for the winter.
- Regretting not getting the cross-traffic alert option.  Funny, I tried to park nose out once for better vision, but discovered that the proportions of the car (ie. long hood) and my seating position made it worse when I was sandwiched between two SUVs.  I actually prefer to back out and lean a bit between the front seats to see behind me; it feels like I'm jutting out less into cross-traffic when my view is blocked.
- had a "Mustang moment" accelerating from a stop taking a right turn in the rain.  The rear end swung out a few degrees more than what I was expecting...which was zero.  But I do find it easy to break the rear tires loose when you give it even an enthusiastic amount of throttle going straight in the dry.  And that's with the summer performance tires and normal mode.

Don't know about winter driving the car since I've never done it and it's mostly my fair weather car.  I think it would be manageable with snow tires.  Would probably be easier with an auto though.

BTW, correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought was bad forum etiquette to write negative posts in a member's "Show 'n Shine" thread. ie. "Nice car, but [insert different car here] is better."
