Wow.  Somehow I missed that these would be offered in a manual.

Manual is only in the RWD 2.0T Sport trim.

Big boob not to offer a manual in the 3.3 because with a "new performance car" you need a halo vehicle to attract those American Pony car buyers or at least keep their criticisms at bay.  A tuned up Sonata 2.0 long block is not going to do it.

Assume the RWD 2.0T Sport has no stop start.  Do all other models have stop/start and can one turn it off?

Look what I found...

Are you skipping the 3.3T and going straight to the RWD model?

That car looks so good.  Want that trim!  I wonder how it would be in Ottawa winters...

Didn't skip, this is a pre-production manual press car I'm breaking in - there are currently only 3 in the country. My first demo will still be a 3.3T, probably next month.

This isn't a pony car, nor is it intended to attract those buyers. It's a luxury sport sedan, full stop. The manual option on the 2.0T is a special low-volume model - we're lucky to have it given the current move away from manual cars in the industry. I've love a manual 3.3T more than anyone, but there's realities to automotive development that override "guy on car forum says we're dumb for not offering it." I'll keep lobbying for it, of course.

To answer the last question, the 2.0T 6MT deletes auto start/stop, ditto on the 3.3T models. The 2.0T automatic models that have the system have a disable button right next to the gear lever.

Well that's problem.  Genesis needs to open a gateway for the legions of manual V8 phony car buyers who are very transient.  They age and are always looking for the next experience in a particular price range and that crowd in the US are huge in numbers.  So if any manual was to be offered it needed to be in the big dog where it would end up in the US car mags in comparison challenges with the American metal and get ppl seriously thinking about a change.  No one in the US looks at a 4 banger seriously at the price point and size.

Look at how many 330is, A4s, and C300s are sold each year.

I guess that is why there are SO MANY $50K manual sedans with 300+hp available on the market. Only if Genesis knew that.

Understand that, in Canada that segment is huge.  So Patrick should be smiling in a few years, but still a big opportunity lost in the US over putting the manual with the wrong motor.  If the company is going to push the performance angle they need to show up on the top dog.

I assume this whole Genesis thing hinges on what happens in the US.  So I would agree that it's clownish to offer a manual in the 4 banger rather than the 6.  It makes absolutely no sense with a company that has money to burn not to burn a little cash on a "performance" halo car just for the talk-ability factor alone.

Of course if this particular car falls flat in the US then it won't be anyone's fault other than market conditions.

How many manual sedans with more than four cylinders are available today anyways?

I count two, the BMW 340i and the M3, and the former is likely going automatic only with next year's M340i.

Yep. And Genesis is crayyyyzeeee not to be chasing that nearly non existent market segment.  I mean, you can't get a Ferrari with a stick anymore and damn near every Porsche sold is an automatic - but Genesis is StoooPid  not to offer a stick on every version of their new sedan. Yep. Makes sense to me.

It's going to be a small market either way....might as well been the V6.

I'm guessing the cost benefit analysis is slightly more complicated than that.

I'm sure.

But the V6 is significantly more desirable than a 4 coupled with a manual.  If you're going to build the sportiest unicorn of this model for enthusiasts...and sales will be low anyways....might as well do it right is all I'm saying.

Tell that to Ferarri, Porsche, Lambo, etc.  Being a manual guy myself, it's a sad reality.  But it's reality nonetheless unfortunately.
