One interesting thing I noticed was the engine air filters - access to them is blocked by the sway bars on each side. You literally have to disconnect the bar on at least one end to swivel it out of place. And there are two of them.

Seems like a somewhat needlessly complex step for something that should be changed annually.
that is odd, but at the end of the day, it's likely one bolt and a few seconds to re/re...a PITA for me, no biggie for a shop or a handy man with all the tools.

Agreed.
Wokeism is nothing more than the recognition and opposition of bigotry in all its forms.  Bigots are predictably triggered.

Was that on the big 3.3T engine or the 4-pot 2.0T?
On a 3.3T I'd give it a pass. On the small one that would seem like poor design.

Hadn't looked at this year, but No San is right - the engine bay bracing runs over top of the air boxes. It's the same on the smaller engine, as well. It's not as hard as you'd think to deal with, though. One bolt on the bar gets loosed, the other removed, and you can rotate it out of the way to access the air filter.

Thanks, Patrick, for the update!  BTW, I asked for you on Sunday but you weren't there.  Oh well - we'll meet up at some point, I'm sure.

Back to the bars - it's not a huge issue, I just thought it odd on a new design considering how often they'd be changed (and on a performance engine, it seemed more odd).  But yeah, it's really not a huge deal.

I honestly loved the G70.  I thought its dimensions were perfect, the interior design lovely, and everything else ideal.

That does look like an unnecessary pain in the ass to just to change a filter  ::)

Yeah.  I'm sure the mechanic doing filter change as part of the complimentary scheduled service is going to be soooooooo terribly bothered by that!  ::)  ::)  ;D

From what I understand, the powertrain guys wanted maximum airflow and the structural guys wanted the car to be as rigid as possible - ease-of-maintenance lost the battle in this case. All I can say is it was absolutely a conscious choice, since we're usually tops in the industry for ease-of-access. In our Hyundai 2.0T cars, for example, you can swap the air filter in less than 10 seconds.

Aside from the fact that it's going to be incredibly rare for a Genesis owner to do this sort of work themselves, you just need to remove one bolt and loosen another. It's not like you've gotta pull the engine to get to the filters or something.

Which you wouldn't on this car.  Because complimentary service.  But hey - don't let me disrupt your strident rant.  It's SUCH a total pain in the ass.  Because guys who enjoy working on their own cars would be really put out by having to loosen a couple bolts.  ::) ::)  OMFG the inconvenient pain of it all!

Wait till he finds out you have to flip open a plastic cap in order to fill the windshield fluid reservoir - such a pain!

I just found it noteworthy and "odd".  I maintain those adjectives ;)

The funny thing is that on our Forester and the Mazda, it's a 10-second unlatch, open, and swap.
...except, the openings are tight and barely big enough for the filters to come out/go in.  It looks like the G70, once those bars are removed, would have full, easy, unobtrusive access.  Just means you have to have a tool with you (a single wrench) when changing the filters vs doing it by hand without said wrench.

Which you wouldn't on this car.  Because complimentary service.
Complimentary service is only for 3 years, so you're correct in that it won't matter for those who lease this.

This is typical engineering bs
Engineers design stuff without any care about servicing
I see it all the time on units I work one

At least Genesis didn't pull a BMW and make it a mandatory dealership visit to install a battery...

I haven't driven the G70 yet, but I can say with 100% certainty that I'd choose it over a 3-series every time.

^^ should be better than the Stinger vs SuperExpensiveKlasse comparos.  The G70 rightfully is offering a 10/10ths competitor (minus the badge snobbery) at 8/10ths of the price.  Brilliant.

I needed to see the interior myself before passing judgment, and it really did meet the applicable standard.
