  And a 4.2L too, I see.

Leaving this here:   ;D

One day in the jungle a chimpanzee invented some tools to eat his dinner. One tool was a flat stick sharpened along one edge, this he used to cut his food. The other was a stick with four smaller sticks attached to the end each sharpened to a point. He used to spear his food and place it in his mouth. The chimp was very proud of his inventions which he called his one point tool and his four point tool.

One day he awoke to find that the four point tool was missing. The chimp was distraught. He ran around the jungle trying to find his precious tool. First he came upon the lion. ”Lion, Lion!” he cried, “Have you seen my four point tool?”

”No” replied the lion, “I have not seen your four point tool.”

Then the chimp came upon the gorilla. ”Gorilla, Gorilla!” he cried, “Have you seen my four point tool?”

”No” replied the gorilla, “I have not seen your four point tool.”

Then the chimp came upon the jaguar. ”Jaguar, Jaguar!” he cried, “Have you seen my four point tool?”

”Yup!” replied the jaguar, “I’ve seen your four point tool.”

”Well where is it?” inquired the chimp.

”I ate it” said the jaguar, smugly.

”Why would you do that?” cried the chimp.

”Because” replied the big cat, “I’m a four point tool eater jaguar!”

Firm, you are an awfully brave man.  I salute your courage.

Thanks all. Yes, it is an ambitious project - I'd be farming out the body work, that's beyond my abilities and I know it. If I had the luxury of free time I'd take it on as a learning experience, but I don't have that kinda time. The mechanicals I can handle; these Jag's are slightly more complex than the MG/Triumph's that I am used to, but not by much, everything is just a little bigger.

To answer Seafoam's question about the engine, I don't really know much about it other than it hasn't run since 2004. It may be seized, or it may be fine. Either way, it'll take some tinkering to get it running, but I am not too worried about that part.

TPL, yes these do rot around the rear suspension mounts. One of the first things I checked on this car and surprisingly they are decent.

The '67 that John linked is gorgeous, but it is also much more desirable car than this one. That is a Series I car, mine is a Series II; there are a lot of little differences, but the biggest would be the covered headlamps on the Series I. Also, mine is a 2+2, which has little seats in the back, and a taller roofline to accommodate those seats, 2+2's significantly less valuable for a long time, but have seen a recent surge in pricing and desirability due to the insane values on the other cars. The linked car is a Fixed Head Coupe, just 2 seats and a lower roofline.

It'll be awesome when finished. That body though, great googly moogly!  :o

Wow that is a project. Hats off to you. I would be uber careful that it doesn't turn into a six figure restoration and leave you with a car worth $60k. ;D

Don't forget to hit the clinic for a tetanus shot before you start anything.  Might need it.  Maybe Chip Foose will steal it from you and you'll get the surprise of a lifetime...or maybe your Employer can use it as a "see what you can do with what we sell" project.  Better than the ice truck anyway.  ;) And you walk away a winner!  ;D

Guess this means you're selling off part or parts of your current collection then...

Why does he have to make it perfect? That is what makes the price so high.
I'd try to make it structurely sound and driveable.

Good question Martin. I also wondered that. Way back in the early 80's I also purchased a 67 E-Type basket case. I was fresh off rebuilding a 240Z and thought that a Jag E-Type couldn't be too much more difficult, or expensive. ::) I was wrong and sold it shortly after.
