$3500 for that teeny raccoon hit in the front of my LS..

BTW....you'll love the RX!
Wife drove 850 km , in the RX , Cobourg to Kapuskasing, 6:30 am to 4 pm , and was feeling good
Already been driving over an hour this morning on her way To Thunder Bay
I wonder how many charging stations are on Hwy 11 ?

Double checked, and the front end hit was 16,000 in '15, the hail repair was 10,000 in '14 (it's a 2014).

Still, if the repairs were good (it drove very well, looked like new) it is probably fine. I'm sure those fancy HID self leveling headlights are not cheap

Wife is balking at the cost of the whole Lexus idea, so something has to give.

I'm threatening her with a new Corolla or Camry at the moment, I can get a brand new Camry for low twenties. New Venza's are scarce as hen's teeth nowadays.

I see a lot of RXs around.  The F sport looks particularly sharp.

Yeah, the used luxury vs new regular conundrum. She's gotten a taste of those useful new features, and they bump the cost up significantly on the used RX's.

I know she'll get tired of blind spot monitoring and lane departure.

Every person I know has shut them off/don't use them..Or doesn't don't much use in them.

I guess it depends on her though.

If you want the RX tell her it's the safest car in NA. Apparently no one has died in an RX in a number of years...which is amazing considering the number on the road.

What car do you like?

i've never driven with lane departure, but i like the blind spot monitoring.

Blind spot did seem like a good thing, but park assist is something I thought the wife would find the most useful

Of course if we go with a RAV Limited instead, then we get the birds eye monitor, which looks like it would be very useful for the wife, plus a dynamic backup camera, parking sensors, and a narrower vehicle to begin with.

And things like adaptive cruise, rear cross traffic, lane departure steering assist, heated steering are all thrown in.

But....it's not a Lexus.

Would you go with the hybrid ?

I would push for that. It's only a grand extra or so in the limited trim, and seems better in every way

I like the Lexus of course, because it's used and had a big depreciation hit already.

Tried a few more on the weekend, a 2012 Rav4 Limited with the V6 and 85000 km, a 2014 Venza V6 Limited with 24,000 km, and another RX.

The lowest mileage last gen Rav4 V6 we could find, was sort of hoping it might do the job for a while. But while it was quick and had refreshingly good visibility, seats were hard, it rode like a gravel truck and smelled horrible. Think the detailing crew may have not been totally up to that job. Not that cheap either, probably because the v6 Rav's are getting scarce.

The Venza, on the other hand, could have been a new car. And despite the big 20 inch wheels it rode way better than the Rav. Not quite as quick, but still a smooth solid surge of power from the V6, much like an RX. Overall it did feel very RX like in how it drove, although somewhat bigger feeling, mostly I think due to the shorter height. Interior not Lexus level either, although very nice otherwise, other than the nav screen, which was poorly angled and hard to read.

The RX was a nice example. It did have the park assist we wanted, tested it with the wife and it looked like it would be helpful. Did put in an offer that was not taken.

I would have bought one already myself, but the wife is holding back, and there is some drawbacks other than the lack of the latest tech:

-lack of warranty. The 2013 we drove yesterday was beautiful, but just out of the 4 yr/80,000 comprehensive. Say that fancy controller screen goes down, assume we would be in for a world of hurt. Not even sure if the climate controls would even work without it

-wearables. That vehicle has 4mm left on the tires, it would not take much driving and a new set is a grand. Brakes would be something else, and fluid changes are not cheap either

-while inexpensive compared to the original price, what they're asking for would go quite a way towards something brand new

Never bought a used car of enough value before myself that any of these would be of concern

It would've  been nice to see what Toyota would've done with a second generation of Venza

Years ago before we bought the HL, we looked at new-ish used and new SUV/etc, and the missus liked the Venza A LOT.  She found it very car like in terms of it's ride and handling, Like you, she found it drove a lot like the RX, which she also really liked.

Appears things are heading into a mid air stall.  :)

Test drive a NEW Nissan Murano SV with driver assistance package which comes with this:

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBlTBUy-IGc

Currently offering $4000 cash back or they roll that into 0% on the finance or Lease.  Figure you could lease one of these 48 mth for under $500 tax in.  If you like it, then buy it out.

If you park outside, the winter remote start is fantastic.  Starts car, puts defrost on ultra high, turns on wheel and seat and runs for 10 min then turns off.

It shames a Toyota Venza in every respect.

Perhaps in the features and value for $, but not in overall reliability.

Remote start is great, I’ve had it since 2013 in my Taurus. Looking to forward to phone capability next...

Compared to Toyota?   Overall brand I would agree, but Nissan is more model specific.  The V6 units are hard to beat.
