I think Toyota's totally nailed the looks, and missed the boat on pricing completely.  It's more expensive than an AWD CX-3?  Wait, what?

I'd like to see the AWD take rates for the HRV and CX-3.  I bet they're high.  The take rate on the AWD Matrix was low as you had to take the less fuel efficient 2.4L engine and people just didn't see the Matrix as being CUV-like at all.  The new mini-utes are "Utes" and people want AWD.

Yeah, I think without AWD most customers won't be able to reach those remote beaches to surf or all those peaks so they can BASE jump.....I'm kidding of course but an CUV without AWD will not sell around here.

I don't see this as being a CUV, but rather a hatch back, so not offering AWD makes perfect sense to me.

I'm totally with you, anyone that considers this hatchback sans AWD a CUV should not be allowed around sharp objects.....but thats what its marketed as.
so is every FWD CUV really just a hatchback??...and if so, then making it AWD is just making it an AWD hatchback, no?
When you've lost the argument, admit defeat and hit the smite button.

but it is specifically marketed as a CUV...and therein lies the debate.
But I don't pay any attention to marketing.  It looks like a hatch and doesn't offer AWD, so more hatch than CUV.

I don't care about marketing, I have my own thoughts as to what a CUV has to have in order for me to consider it a CUV.....otherwise to me its an AWD hatch no matter what the Ad Men tell me.
Lighten up Francis.....

The ad men also said the Traverse (and siblings), Pathfinder (and sibling), Pilot, and Highlander are not minivans.

Well, they are not, no sliding doors, but you and I know better. Sorry, if you bought a Pathfinder, you bought the wrong AWD Sienna.

The original Odyssey didn't have sliding doors!

I don't think I should've lumped the Highlander in there, borderline minivan-ish but too small.

Well then...they are minivans. Engine is the wrong way, no proper 4x4 transfer case, yup, AWD minivans. Wait till this gets out, owners will all be scrambling to sell and buy Sequias and Suburbans as to not have just another minivan MUHAHAHAHAHA....then I can get a cheap Highlander  ;D

Yea, but if you like the car and added utility of a CUV, why wouldn't you buy it if you have no use for AWD?

IQs parentals loved everything about the HR-V. And generally don't drive in the winter. So they bought the FWD model.

And they are happy as clams with their vehicle.

Same thing here...if you NEED AWD, this car is off the list. If you want the utility the vehicle offers...excellent car.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

This is turning into a very cool segment, and fast.  I like the Honda a lot because it's so practical.  The Mazda is great looking and packaged well.

But, I love the over-the-top looks of the Toyota.  I think they've really nailed it.  It out-Jukes the Juke!

The first thing I think is Veloster.
Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.

Come on Dkaz, no minivan tows 5000lbs.  And minivans ride much softer than any of those vehicles.  Also load height of minivans are lower.

You quoted Fobroader.

But arguably, Pathfinders can't tow 5,000 lb either.

They can't tow whatever Nissan tells you either as they have a very disturbing habit of spitting out their trannies.

Don't forget you can fit many 4'x8' sheets of plywood flat on the floor  in the back of a minivan and close the hatch.  I don't even have to remove any of my seats to do it.  Try doing THAT in an SUV!

Okay, CUV, or SUV that doesn't cost as much as a private yacht.

Thats a lot exaggerated, theres moro.....ahem...people out there paying that for a hatch in drag like a Macan. You can get a 'Burb starting in the $60k range, name something else thats even remotely as comfortable or capable.
