Well the new one does not sound any better to me and it only has 2 doors and a hatch. The main thing about the old one was great handling so why single that out for the new one....it is already there. So 2 doors...no 4 cyl. 1.6 engine...outward vision impaired from what you say. The old one looked just fine. They have not learned about small car automatic stick shifts yet either and the Single large centered  speedo...existant...gone. Looks...yuk.

The new rear view camera looks like a larger screen which is good...maybe you need it.

With the current Micra I think, as has been stated, that there is an interface with the top of the line and the next size up options where better value can be had for little more money. Is'nt this always the case...maybe more so here.

The new one has four doors, the door handles are in the C-pillar.

The BASE Micra is a great car.  Seriously.  Drive other cars priced like it, and it's the class leader.  For anyone that MUST have a new car and is on a super tight budget, the Micra is the best car around.

But, start adding options, and that value equation is shot to crap.  You're suddenly into the much more substantial compact class and the Micra just pales in comparison in terms of comfort and level of equipment.

Personally, I'd buy a $10K used car because you can get a shocking amount of car even at that price, but some people must have new.

the base Micra isn't any better of a car than the others it competes with...it's a loss leader...Nissan knows full well very few people will actually buy these trims...a handful of other brands also offer a ~$10k base car.

if you really want a base trim car and want as much value for your $10k, i think the Accent has it beat.

Hyundai Accent L
30 more HP, 6sp manual, 4 wheel disc brakes, bluetooth audio and 4 speakers - $9685.25 (about $300 less than the Micra and has a longer warranty)

When you've lost the argument, admit defeat and hit the smite button.

If paying cash sure. $13,999 vs. $9,999 for those who are financing otherwise which would be most buyers.

Lol at standard warranty. After hearing horror stories for Hyundai and Kia warranties, I'd prefer a car known to be reliable than a longer warranty. My brother's Kia started developing all sorts of electrical maladies and the dealer gave them the runaround. They're now back to Toyota.

in the words of tommy boy regarding warranty/guarantees... "Because they know all they sold ya was a guaranteed piece of :censor:. That's all it is, isn't it? Hey, if you want me to take a dump in a box and mark it guaranteed, I will. I got spare time. But for now, for your customer's sake, for your daughter's sake, ya might wanna think about buying a quality product..."

There's a decent Nissan dealer here now, and I'd still go Micra for the bargain basement car, then Corolla in the compact class.  I haven't heard good things about the local Hyundai dealers, but I guess I'd check them out.

Again, were it my $10-13K, I'd buy the best used Corolla i could find - which around here easily nabs you a 2013 with low kms on a dealer lot.

my Rio5 is over the 5 year mark now, so we'll see what happens...haven't had any issues yet, and even if i do, i bought the extra 5 years of warranty anyway so i'm covered either way...i can't comment on the "horror stories" as i have yet to have an issue with either one, but time will tell i guess...the dealer i go to seems pretty easy to deal with...YMMV.

My brother's 2012 Rio5 SX-L Navi started randomly locking and unlocking itself. The battery also died after 4 years and warranty wouldn't cover (I guess none do but Kirkland offers 8 years (5 prorated) on their batteries and Canadian Tire 5 years (0 prorated) on their AGM battery. They offered him a new battery at $169. So that one can die after 4 years? lol.

i have the same car, but it's an SX, there's no such thing as an SX-L...the only thing i've done is regular maintenance and the brakes were done last year (which, is technically maintenance too)...i have almost 90,000 kms on it now...i bring it in every spring and fall for maintenance when my tires get swapped.

electrical issues and a failed battery...hmmm...perhaps it was washed too thoroughly?  ;)

Well...ya lost me with the rear disc brakes. I don't know about elsewhere but not required on a small car in my opinion...'rear ones' to be clear. Maintenance aplenty in my experience. I notice that the new Micra has them...ah well...'there goes the farm'. Maybe not though; not many agree with my sentiments for ordinary road going vehicles. Rear discs have a racey lean...hmmm... that a small 3 cyl. engine is not in sympathy with. There are roumers of a 200HP version that will probably get all on board here. Up..up...and away.

On this class of car rear discs or drums make no difference. None. One is marketing and one is cost saving and both work more than well enough for light cars with little power.

No, but his loathing of discs is just weird. Like I get on some 100hp toaster that rear discs don't make a sporting difference but they are just oh so much easier to work on.

When I think back to vehicles I've had in the past, I had more problems with the ones with drums.

I dunno about ease of service. The rear drums on the Corolla will need work in the next couple months, and it's a dead simple job. Probably take me an hour for both sides. The cylinders are fine (seems Toyota makes quality ones) so knock the drum off, pop out the shoes and actuating hardware, replace the shoes and hardware (easy) and then install the new drum. Presto.  The springs and actuating hardware are simple and super easy to get out and in. Design counts, I guess, and the Corolla rear brakes are child's play to replace.

On my truck, the Jeep, the Montero and the Mustang the rear discs are super simple to do, like an hour for a complete pad change at all 4 corners.
