That said, unless ground clearance is a priority, Cousin Audi makes a pretty compelling sport-hatch-thing for a lot less money...

Oh, man, I'd rather have that Audi by a factor of 1000.

don't you read what you post? heh... (sorry, had to!) that was from 2014 stats, and it referred to the old compass and patriot. also, the 2017 model year has both compasses available... dumb in my opinion, but smarter (read: higher paid) people thinks it's smart.

and that is a fine way to rank it, but we all have different expectations. i am fine that my wrangler is averaging 12.1 right now... i expect a brick with 283hp and gearing to climb on mud tires to be crap on fuel. a sane person who doesn't care about 4x4 capability and such will think it is horrendous.

so make it relative to everything in it's size category? comparable in power? similar drivetrains? can be tricky...
tooscoops does bring up a valid point...different things weigh differently on different people...for example, i might put power and torque (acceleration feel) higher up the scale than my mother, who would much prefer some of the automatic safety features...one might prefer driving dynamics, another might prefer a softer ride and better fuel economy.
When you've lost the argument, admit defeat and hit the smite button.

Wat??

I concede that Jeep still uses 2014 numbers, which makes no sense since it came from Jeep.ca - I guess they don't update the website much.

Still, it was used for comparison of another vehicle the gets similar fuel economy... How does driving dynamics play into that?

was that directed at me?

Audi S5?

Unfortunately, that color option isn't available in Canada anymore.  :(

My one real criticism of the brand - the Audi colour palette looks like an old black and white movie for most models.

^This   Audi seems stuck back in the "any colour you want as long as it's black, white or some variation of silver" days.

I really have to wonder why they haven't brought back that blue for the 2017 and 2018 models, particularly on the S-line.  It's as mysterious as the sudden lack of Black Optics packages which these new models desperately need.  The chrome hurts my eyes.

Nothing mysterious about that. Audi almost never immediately offers Black Optics on new models.

I'll need to wait then since the SQ-5 and S5 Sportback are on my shopping list but only with the BO package.

I had to check out the article after reading that comment. Wheels look awesome to me: nice to see some meaty rubber on this thing!

Having said that, the spec list at the end of the article says this Macan has optional 21" wheels. Sure doesn't look like it to me. ???

You're right, this Macan is generally fitted with the 21s, but when Justin had it the stock 19s with winter rubber were on board.
Will rectify the article to reflect this.
Sorry for the late reply, I've been going back and forth with Porsche on it, because they kept saying the build sheet was correct, only when I showed the photos side-by-side did they realize we had it with Winters on it and confirm.

I'm thinking the colors they offer correspond to what people actually buy. No reason tooling for yellow when no one buys it.

PS, I like color.

Well if they only offer black white and grey, by definition that will be "what people actually buy".  Fly yellow might be a tough sell but I didn't see anyone suggesting that.  Or purple, or lime green.  Just some actual colour would be welcome.

At least the A4 offers a couple reds, a couple blues, a green...

The S5 Sportback does offer a deep red and a deep blue. Not exactly razzle-dazzle, but they're alternatives to all the white Audis I see in traffic.

What's disappointing is that the S-series models have typically been offered with more vivid color options.  They still are in many markets.

yeah, super goofy on the website. something about that (2014) being the year that they changed the way the fuel economy was tested. that link on the site was for the older cars to give what the new testing would rate the older cars at. https://www.jeep.ca/en/suvcompass/capability that will have the new compass's numbers.

and if the latter part of the post was directed at mine as well.... i don't understand what you are asking? you compared two cars, i just explained a part of why the results were as they were.

I would rank it relative to itself... How does the fuel economy compare to expectations for the type of vehicle?
i would say driving dynamics would would be important to decide on where to place your expectations.

I'm with ya there, it's gotta be BO for any Audi i'd consider. I just don't get the sudden increase in chrome on every model. I've seen photos of some new A4's completely blacked out via aftermarket, and it's unbelievable what a difference it makes.

Re: other colours, doesn't Audi still do a custom paint-to-sample program, albeit for a lot of $$$? Imola Yellow SQ7 Schoolbus, anyone?
