I think it's pretty close in size, just jacked up a bit.

This basically is Audi's version of the current, smaller, VW Tiguan, based on pre-MQB Golf bits. Despite the stubby looks, the Q3 is a bit longer than the current Golf.

FWIW, the wife's family Friends are loaded... Incredibly so.  The oldest got a Q5 when she started driving, but then the Q3 came out and she wanted to downsize. She got the Q3 and "handed down" the Q5 to her younger sister.
