this is one sweet looking capable truck, that isn't a 3 ton 25 foot long full size...i know, i know, it's expensive...but it looks good and it seems like it's got the chops to actually do what it looks like it can do.

Psshh, but it's no Subaru!  My Forester can handle anything!

And psshh!!  My Camry can handle that road.

*rable rable rable*

;D

I like the sounds of this truck, were I in the market (which I'm not).  I love me some good tech and uniqueness in a segment, and this ticks that box.  Well done!

I test drove a diesel Canyon (not a ZR2) over the weekend, looking for something to replace the diesel Golf that VW will be buying back in a few weeks.

I could not believe how unrefined the baby Duramax is.  Or at least, I don't think any attempt was made to insulate the cabin from the increased noise of it relative to the gas engine.  In my Golf, VW made the windshield thicker, put double seals on the doors, and otherwise made a strong effort to reduce the noise.

In the Sierras I looked at, both the double and crew models had back seats that could fold up revealing a nice useful, flat load floor.  In the Canyon, there is this stupid plastic storage affair taking up half the floor, that means there is no point in folding the seats up at all.  You can't even unbolt the stupid thing and put it in the garage, because that's what supports the rear seats.

As far as I could tell, the price of the Canyon is the same as the price of the Sierra after the heavy discounting due to the highly competitive half-ton market.

I could not give the key to the Canyon back to the sales guy, fast enough.

I understand that there is an appeal to "off road" vehicles, but if most people are honest, the suspension tuning you get is not really compatible with the actual use you will put the truck to.  And I'm not sure the exotic multimatic shock, which was designed for road racing, has any type of off-road pedigree in terms of its ability to take abuse.

I don't think GM are going to sell a lot of these. Too expensive, crushing depreciation.

The price was announced in March for the Canadian market.  You can even build and price one on Chevrolet.ca

Starts at $44k.  Double cab is $45.5k compared to 53k for TRD Tacoma. On paper this is way better equipped for off road compared to the Pro.  Also I think they will keep their value well since the regular Colorados keep their value well, at lease around here.

Sorry.....no, $50K for a truck that can't tow, haul or carry passengers as well as a 1/2 ton, no, hell to the no. If I wanted an "off road" truck, for $50k you are easily in slightly used Raptor or Ram Power Wagon territory.
Lighten up Francis.....

Mini diesel raptor with magic suspension? This is the first new car that has moved my needle in awhile. Will go check it out. I believe that the 3.6L will make a better hooning engine.

You have to go to 2013 Raptor or older roughly to be in the $50k range or lower.  Comparing new to used throws price out the window anyways.  Only fair comparison is new to new.  And new Raptors are about $100k.  The ZR2 is a Bargain!

How many people who buy a truck like this actually go off-roading?

A computer once beat me at chess, but it was no match for me at kickboxing.

How many people who buy a truck like this actually go off-roading?

I think more along the lines of urban assault driving on our decaying roads. I would have no problem launching this off railroad crossings etc.. Dirt service roads out in Alberta would be a hoot.

I can think of several places nearby where I can catch air....no need for actual offroading  ;D
