Would have it done better in this test?  Because it sounds like they got a weirdly speced model here.
It's not a weirdly spec'd model... It's the way some people would option theirs.  I've seen special white SE 1.5T with the blacked out wheel package driving around Ottawa.  Perhaps Ford is pushing that model as it's a cash cow, but people are buying it (probably very discounted).

I commented on the trim in my bit. I highlighted that I'd option the car at $32k - $6k cheaper despite having the stronger engine.  Not sure why these comments come out about something being unfair.

It's very true that the Escape would have done better if it was optioned differently, but it wouldn't have touched the podium. My guess is no better than 5th or 6th, but then it would have died in terms of value for the price (more than it already did).

The Escape is still dated, the interior is not a great design, is ergonomics lag behind, and it's "high MSRP, but we have a deal for you, our special little customer!!" it's punished in a comparison like this.  It's a dumb model to price the vehicle so high when it'll never sell for that price.

I loved driving the Escape. It was one of my favorite vehicles, but it's compact and not quite as thoughtfully designed inside. From the driver's perspective only, it's one of the better options though.  Not from a family's.

When we were car lot tire kicking this past weekend, made a quick stop at Ford.
They had this used '17 Titanium in their used lot with 15,000 klicks.

$39K !!   :rofl2:

Oh wait, it comes with a bag of crack in the back.  It's reasonable then.

^^
I'm not seeing the bag - so the Escape must have some killer underfloor storage!!

To be fair though, used car purchases are always going to be negotiated down, it's likely a "demo" that they're actually referring to as used (finally), it avoids the $1,690 in PDI, the $100 AC Tax (lolz), and unlike our tester, has leather seats and push-button start!  On-the-road pricing will come in thousands (my guess is $5-6,000) cheaper than buying the same vehicle new.

...but it doesn't have blacked out wEeLz, so it's not my cup of tea ::).

That dealer lost its marbles!

Yeah, that one does seem to be much more reasonably-priced...

I don't know how this dealer stays in business...years ago we tried to trade in our 2005 Escape and they offered to "Recycle our ride" aka give us $500. We declined and couldn't leave fast enough. We gladly accepted $4000 trade from the Hyundai dealer down the street. Looking back I'm glad it played out the way it did.

I'm shocked they priced the Escape that way...I just built a 2.0 Titanium for $38k before taxes

I'm not really.  When shopping in late 2015/early 2016 I priced out an Escape with the stuff I wanted to bring the feature content in line with the XT and it was a lot more money, well over $40,000 if I recall right.  Sort of weird packages you had to get for specific content.

With North American made cars you have to search price and location.

Cars website has Escape Titanium discounted to about $9,000 if you want it delivered to your front door.  With a price of $29,000 not much will match a Titanium 2.0T.
