These cars should be cheap.  They were mostly bought by people that were new to the brand, didn't have a clue about really taking care of them, and today there's lots of them that are just waiting to serve you up some big bills.

That said, if you can find a really cherry example that's actually been cared for, they can be a great sports car buy.

A huge issue for me is that there are probably some of the least DIY-friends cars ever sold.  No hoist?  Find a tech.

Hmm, now I'm wishing I wrote up FIL's 2001 Turbo. :P

I get you though, Peter, and beautiful grab. FIL has put in a new alternator and battery terminal lead (weird thing to die), but he also paid 3x what you did for a 24,000km specimen.

May the Porsche be with you!

Yep you guys got us. Peter sold a different version of this story to two outlets. They're not the same exactly, but certainly about the same thing. We have different audience to Driving.ca (though clearly a bit of crossover!) so we didn't mind taking this cool piece on.

Just an observation, seems any new car reviews / stories get cycled through all media (driving.ca, Globe, autotrader, etc.). We who read the internet notice. Not exactly sure how different the audience is, but you guys know better, I'm sure.

Btw, how is the comment section on autotrader.ca going?

You're right, that's why different stuff that goes through only one or two of us is valuable.
And the comment section is going extremely well.

On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

Good read and congrats, Jeff! That's a pretty and unique colour combo. I'd be tempted to paint the wheels a darker colour, but that's just me.

Lots of 986 Boxster stories these days. Jack Baruth did one last week at R&T - he's a good read when he's not beating you over the head with how cool he thinks he is:
