For me, there is one primary benefit of this class of vehicles.

Driving down the street yesterday behind an X6 - and I chuckle as I am reminded how SirO is quietly raging on the inside, 250 km away!  ;D

On some great and glorious day the plain folks of the land will reach their heart's desire at last, and the White House will be adorned by a downright moron.

I am convinced Autos.ca posts reviews of these coupe-SUV's expressly to troll the commentariat, and I say well-played ;D

Jesus man.  Yes CUV's are popular.
Get over it or seek therapy.

CUVs are the way into the future - easy ingress, good fuel economy, high driving position

I agree with that, but this segment is an exception. Car guys/gals are not the demographic for this car. Rich yuppies with no taste are - you know, the ones who buy pre-ripped and pre-mudded jeans for $500. How am I to appreciate someone's "individual style" when the vehicle has no style to start with, and no redeeming features? It is like asking a foodie to appreciate someone's interest in only eating Kraft Dinner with anchovies.

But hey, who am I to judge. I am a crazy vegan who drives a Saab and an Alfa Romeo. Talk about weird.  :P

Bah, I'll drop it and stop screaming at the radio. People can drive what they want, but if someone does buy one of these, I just want to know why...

If driving an Alfa does not restore vitality to your soul, then just pass the hospital and park at the morgue to save everyone time.

Now drives a Jaaaaaaag...and thus will not pay for anything during an outing...but it is OK, because....I drive a Jaaaaaag.

Maybe they like coupes more than CUVs, but need the practicality of CUVs?  :)

Most of the "swoopy" CUV/SUVs are actually really small inside.  The massive on the outside and horrendously over-weight X6 is shockingly small inside.  Practical?  Not really.

Space is one aspect, but here are some others:
- Ease of entry/exit
- Softer, more comfortable suspension
- High driving position and view
- Safety
- Quieter?
- Hatchback (compared to C-class sedan/coupe)

I admit that the similarity to coupes is only aesthetic. I would prefer a regular GLC, but there may be folks who want a sporty appearance while not giving up CUV characteristics.

EXACTLY. Go sit inside one of these things, it will shock you how small they are despite their outside proportions.

Again, it is not a coupe, nor is it practical. All it has going for it is a high riding position, which if you look at it, not really, as most of these things are slammed down on huge wheels anyways, and have really high beltlines killing the greenhouse area and any visibility advantage these might have over a car. I guess there is ease of entry still...but how hard is it to get into a traditional CUV? Also, the back is not easy to get into, as the sloping roofline knocks your head every time you get in and out. Forget sitting in the back if you are over 6ft...

They are no safer than cars [crash tests, nor visibility are better - see above], nor are they quieter - especially with those huge wheels and low profile performance tires. A traditional CUV has a better hatch area as well.

Really, these things have no redeeming features other than perceived sportiness vs traditional CUVs, and then it is like throwing out the burger to get the tomato inside...and finding out there is no tomato - because these are no sportier than a performance version of a traditional CUV.

I doubt anyone with space as a priority is going to get one of these "coupes".

Let me rephrase: someone that wants a vehicle with a sporty appearance without the following disadvantages:
- Poor ease of entry/exit
- Hard, less comfortable suspension
- Low driving position and view
- Safety (real/perceived)
- Quieter? You could get the higher profile tires from the non-coupe version.
- No hatchback (IMO, the GTI does not look like a sporty coupe, but the Focus RS does)

For example, compare this vehicle to a C-class coupe.

eh, I guess...lets hope nobody buys them anyways and they go away soon, instead of spawning 10 more micro-niches of the CUV segment

Why?  Why do you care what people's reasons are for purchasing what they purchase?  Don't know why you can't accept the fact that some folks simply have different tastes than you.
