Gave the new bike it's first mountain single-track workout on Friday and then a on-road community cruise today to get the gearbox oil up to temp for the first change. It will be ok to connect trails but this thing is not very happy on the pavement.  ;D

Morning ride up to Halton to the Velodrome, back down to Oakville for breakfast, then down to the lake to chill, then home before the rain.

 Generally late October to early November - depending upon one's tolerance for cold. I generally want 10 degrees minimum, otherwise I'm more enduring the ride rather than enjoying it. Even if I had heated gear from head to toe, tire grip sucks in single digit temps- which is also a joykill.

Having a partner who rides is the best!

Even when we can't find time for proper long-distance road trips, it's still our "thing" to get up on a Sunday morning, hop on the bikes and ride somewhere for breakfast... then somewhere else for coffee.  :)

Yessir! That Kawi Ninja 1000 is a future possibility for me.

...in the meantime, if you want a really good deal on a '15 Street Triple R that's been fastidiously maintained, let me know... I've got a lead.  ;)

Love the Street Triple! Badly want a new one.  But I have to seriously consider that the fairly sporty peg position on my bike is not agreeable to my aging knees after about 2 hours.  :-[  It would be nice to have a fleet of 3 bikes - sport naked, touring and mini moto.  Sadly, funds and space are both limiting factors.

Dad got tired of his unreliable HD Softail 1100, so he traded it in on this:

Seriously, though, he had so many issues with his Harley, mostly electrical/computer related, it was driving him up the wall.  And his 'local' dealer an hour and a half away redefined the term stealership.  Everytime he'd bring the bike in, it was a $400 diagnostic charge.  A few times of them not actually fixing the root problem, but only tackling symptoms, then charging him for subsequent visits, and he was done.  The biggest problem is a mechanic needs Harley diagnostic software to really read the computer, and his local Indies just don't have the equipment.

The Indian is a lot more open, and his local mechanics will be able to work on it if need be.

I've heard that a lot about Harleys.  Never got the obsession.  Even though cruisers and baggers aren't my thing, I've always found the Indian offerings more appealing.  Heck, the Scout was the first bike that actually caught my eye as a possible purchase.

Ouch! That's how our mechanic friend warned us away from looking at Mercedes. Takes a lot out of the 'Born Free' image

I lived with Harley mechanics in college, and at that time it seemed like it was all redoing valves and other greasy mechanical problems

I'm surprised either are still in business with those withering segments of the motorcycle industry.

So it's a 2023 Indian Scout ABS.  1100cc.  He's a little bit shorter, and wanted a bike with a low saddle height.  He's also 76, so didn't want super low, aggressive handlebars that are hard on an old back.  The Scout seemed to fit the bill perfectly as its relatively low to the ground, yet still has a comfortable, more upright seating position.

Will be interested what he thinks about it. The Scouts look absolutely gorgeous.

Imagine it's for bopping about the city, or is he thinking of doing some trips?

Day trips, mostly.  I think his motorcycle tripping days are over.  He lives rural NB near the coast, so tons of stellar riding out his way.
