4 days in the woods was wonderous for the soul. 2 days solo, 2 days with a partner. This is about as complicated as camp gets for me. Weather was perfect. Some nasty storms at night but tacky, no dust, no bugs and tshirt weather in the evenings. Very few people around.
nice trip! What precaution do you take for riding solo? you bring stuff for bears?
carry enough to spend a somewhat uncomfortable night in the woods. Sounds like a lot but discounting water weight probably no more than 9lbs total including the pack.
1) First rule is to dial the riding back to "solo". I ride at about 75%max of my normal pace, never "pushing it". At that pace things really need to go sideways to have a life threatening injury. I always wear full gear when solo including a full chest protector.
2) Carry basic tools to allow for field repairs (tubes/patches), spare plug and some fuel line, JB weld etc)
3) Bear spray yes. In fact I need to get handlebar mount as I needed it a few years ago and it was not that helpful tied to my hydration pack. Also basic survival stuff and first aid kit. folding saw.
4) hydration pack with water filter. Water is a must. Enough stuff to spend a night in the woods.
5) A spot locator (I use a Garmin mini) to call in the cavalry but also to keep my contacts updated. I can share a map and they can track my progress in 10 minute intervals.
