So I took the Monkey to bike night.  I figured it could go one of two ways - a lot of scorn and indifference from the liter-bike squids, or some people thinking it was kind of neat.  It went a third way - it was a total smash hit.  ;D  There were people aroung the bike more often than not, lots of pics taken, lots of questions asked.  And 4 or 5 people asked if they could throw a leg over - a request that has never been made at this event for my bike.  :rofl2:  And these were people coming off of a broad spectrum of bikes.  My 6'1" riding buddy was amazed that he fit comfortably on the thing.

In other breaking Monkey news, I tried to figure out the top speed on this thing, and with the throttle pinned in 5th on a flat strecth of road, I saw.... wait for it... 94kph.  :rofl2:  I'm a good deal heavier than my wife, so she will likely eek out a bit more.  So long as she isn't going even slightly uphill.  :)

Wokeism is nothing more than the recognition and opposition of bigotry in all its forms.  Bigots are predictably triggered.

The reviewer loves the bike because he makes a small commission off each one sold.  Sounds like an objective review.  :rofl2: T

Seriously??  :rofl2:

That's not too shocking, it's really a fun looking bike.  I'm sure a lot of people are curious about it, and not just motorcycle people.  This is the type of bike I'd love to have if I lived on a Caribbean island and didn't need a car.  Just something to get me to and from the beach and pick up a hand full of groceries.  I bet if it was the Grom you would have got a few less people coming over for pictures.

Agreed on all points. Number one comment from people who knew what it was: "I've never seen one in person before - it looks like a toy in pics but like a real bike in person."  Number one comment from people who didn't know what it was: "Wat IS THAT?!?"  ;D

Yeah, that Monkey is really neat.

I dare say it would be more fun pinning that thing in 5th at 94 km/h than loafing along at the speed limit on a liter bike. Or going to jail because you actually tried to use the capabilities of a liter bike on the street.

If 4-5 of my friends had these and we went for a ride...I think I'd still likely me going to jail! LOL [emoji38]

Agreed with all of the above.  It's a giggle to ride, and you get to use all that each gear has to offer.

And yeah, you'd have to be going downhill, downwind, full throttle through a school zone to lose your license on this thing.  :rofl2:

Well somehow I don't see myself being all that comfortable on 500 km day rides, forget about 1500 km days.

Looking at the bike right next to it, there is quite the size difference. I have the suspension set for a passenger on my R1200 GSA LC and I flat foot it when stopped.
What you won't find in my car is a coffee, cigarette and a cell phone. What you will find is a driver; imagine that, a driver in a vehicle. What an effing concept!

I've never done 500km in a day, but if I did, I'd bet the Monkey would be more comfortable than my CB650R. And the Monkey is one up only, so no pillion issue because no pillion. I think we can agree that your bike and this bike are not being shopped by the same customer.

The bike beside it is Rob's Tiger 900. Really impressive machine.

I used to work in a Honda motorcycle shop. Is that Monkey the same size as a Z50 because the Z50 is damn small. I am 6'1".

Other than enduros and my KLR 650, I gave up on chains when I switched to BMW in 1991.

My first day in Europe is 730 kms, but split into 2 days last year because my girlfriend came along. This year 584 kms and she is bringing pain and muscle meds. Walk in the park and a long way from my 1500 kms days.

No. it's much bigger than the Z50.

While it's obviously not a touring bike, one youtuber did a full lap of the circumference on Great Britain on one.  And while it's not an adventure bike, two youtubers did the Baja 1000 on a pair of bone stock Monkeys.  It's a far more capable little machine than you might expect, and certainly more than up to the demands my wife will place on it for puttering around Oakville and taking 2 hour rides up through the country.

I can see than now. Quite a bit bigger.

I remember seeing the Honda Rukus and the Yamaha TW200. I'd have more bikes (well actually I have 5) if I didn't have to insure each one as we do in here.

On a rainy day in Austria while on my tour and not much in the mood for a day ride, I stopped in at Allianz Insurance and asked about car and motorcycle insurance rates. One car and two motorcycles. Well over there even if you have 3 motorcycles, you only pay premiums for the highest risk motorcycle and get one plate. That plate can be moved from one motorcycle to the next. The agent said, "well you can only ride one motorcycle at a time, why would you insure all three?. What an effing concept that they cannot seem to figure out in this s**thole of a country.

And talking about motorcycle insurance and the need to get Accident Benefits, and by the way, you have to get that for every vehicle that you own and insurace (I mean do I get three times the care if I pay Accident Premiums for 3 vehicles).

What about skiers, rock climbers, water skiers, pilots, parachutists or any acrivity sport. Why don't they have Accident Benefits?

Vehicle insurance in Ontario is effed up big time. Don't get me going on insurance. Banks and insurance I have no use for.

What was the quote? I pay $130/year for full comprehensive and have the option to drop it down to just theft/damage for 6 months out of the year to save an additional $40 (for $90/year.) I would want theft and damage on all my bikes all the time.

Do you just have this one policy with that company? And what year, make and model is insured?
