They only had one to sell? This is going to sustain Honda?

Their total allotment for 2023 is 2 Monkeys. This was the first to arrive. They seemed to have an abundance of Africa Twins and Rebels.

The Africa Twin does not surprise me. It is a very imposing bike size wise with a tall seat height, very little adventure to be had there.  The future is light weight and the Africa Twin is not it. Now if I can dig up a cream puff AT sub $10k with the desirable mods I would consider. My ideal seller is someone who wants to play Charlie Boorman, has bought a new Africa Twin with all the fixings and then 1000km  later drops it and decides that this isn't his jam.. ;D Let him take the $12k loss.

I haven't warmed to adventure bikes as a category, but I'm thawing.  The really big ones still hold zero appeal, however.  Something like the new Transalp - maybe.  And I could definitely see myself on a Moto Guzzi V100 Mandello S - which really isn't a pure adventure bike, but more of a sports-tourer.

Wokeism is nothing more than the recognition and opposition of bigotry in all its forms.  Bigots are predictably triggered.

I actually like this "adventure bike", which definitely isn't on the big side.

They've also brought back other classic models...though we currently only get the Monkey,

The SuperCub (best selling motorized vehicle of all time, planet earth.  100+ million.)

Commuted on a 70cc one of those one summer in England, was a surprising amount of fun. Slow car fast idea

Even with those little engines they can be surprisingly quick in town as there is no weight and you get used to hammering them wide open all the time.

Things can still go wrong, I flipped mine on the first decreasing radius corner on pavement, good thing I had a helmet on. My dirt bike background apparently didn't teach me much about countersteering

I love small displacement bikes.

Same here. Totally dig the small CBs and CLs from the late  60s.

They went to 90cc..and maybe smaller

I bet it will still be a fantastically fun bike.  What should it rev to, is it way off what people were hoping for?  Seems like the power figures are in line with expectations.  The price is decent too.  Would you recommend this as a “starter bike” or too racy?

No biggie.

They often sell these special bikes either detuned or muzzled.

There'll be a "track" ecu or tune that uncorks it.

With the extra 3,500 RPMs, would you expect a noticeable amount of power in that range or is it more about music to the ears?

ECU tunes are getting harder and harder. It used to be simple to get a closed course competition remap from KTM but know dealers are forbidden to do it. The EPA in the US cracked down. Yes you can get tuners and new ECUs etc but that is getting strangled slowly but surely. No fun for you!

If it is mostly about noise it will be interesting. There was a ton of pushback locally about sport bikes going through the gears in the middle of the night. They do make a racket.

Sure it will still be fun.  But heck, my bike revs to 13k, and I would expect a smaller displacement sport bike to rev higher.  The bike doesn't suck.  But it sucks that they artificially limited the revs.  Top end rush is what inline 4 sport bikes are all about.
