300 can definitely work on the highway - it just wouldn't be my choice if highway riding represented a big chunk of my miles.

Then again, Itchy Boots is riding from Equador to Alaska on a 300 loaded with a mountain of gear, so....
Wokeism is nothing more than the recognition and opposition of bigotry in all its forms.  Bigots are predictably triggered.

152 in first crazy

I negotiated a 2014 CBR500 with a guy.. set up an appointment to finalize the deal and he texted in the morning it was sold. 30 minutes before i left for a 150km trip...

Can the 300cc bikes keep up on the highway? I am currently looking in the 500 to 600 class

As a current owner of a 300, here's my experience. It will do the highway, it doesn't like it and neither will you for extended periods. Its a buzzy ride with not a lot of power left over for passing or GTFO of the way of something. Saying that, its one of the best commuter bikes out there, fuel usage is a non issue, its got more than enough power to get around the slack jawed, texting, steering wheel holders, and and insurance is really cheap. I wouldn't recommend it if you are looking at doing a lot of long highway touring. It can be done, but there are lots of better cars motorcycles out there for it.

300 would do ok on the highway. Suffers a bit in the mountains. Even most 250s. But not exactly in its element and little passing power. They can get blown around in the wind a bit too.

My 300 actually shined best once I got to the Rockies into BC, also in Ontario. It was the prairies where I would've appreciated more power and comfort.

I'm used to people checking out my bike, but this dude looked like he was doing a safety inspection.  :rofl2:   (Bike has a rear plate - it just got blurred out of existence accidentally on purpose).

Thanks for all your suggestions. I don’t think i will do long highway rides. I think I will stick to 300 class
A bit cheaper to buy a bit cheaper on insurance newer and I will get to know how serious I am about the hobby

Ton of appealing 300cc bikes in pretty much every category. There's a guy who frequents the same motorcycle / breakfast Cafe who rides a new Rebel 300 and carries a pillion - so it can comfortably manage cruising country roads.

Hear here!!

To be fair, that is one good looking bike.  (If I was actually gonna buy a bike again) I'd consider one if it wasn't for the fact it's more to insure here by 40-45% over much more powerful bikes.  A V-Max is under a grand...for me ($950)...this thing, more like $1300 $1498.  If our stupid province wasn't so stupid...but MPI's a joke so whatcha gonna do - it's a captured market.  Son has the R version of that bike, costs more to insure than his Mustang, and that's under Pleasure Use.   If it wasn't for the fact "mom owns it" it would be around $2,000 for him to insure it.  If it was All Purpose -  :o >:( :fall:closer to $3000 (and over $2100 for "mom").  Facking stupid.

Thanks - and yikes re insurance. I'm paying about $1300 a year, which doesn't shock me for a full comprehensive policy for a new rider (though an older one).  When my wife gets her bike, that will drop below $1k with the bundle discount.

Ontario is statistically the safest place to drive in North America.

We have among the most expensive rates in North America.

We are being raped, not merely bent over.

I was doing some insurance quotes online and the CBR500 was 115/mo and a 2000 CBR600 F4 was 175/mo
No option to put on hold during winter months
insane

Guys on litre bikes are paying less than $450 in Alberta. With auto insurance rates in Alberta skyrocketing because of the removed caps and insurance companies adjusted their rates for how much claims were actually costing, motorcycle insurance rates have largely stayed where they are. Maybe because motorcycle rates were already unregulated and the nature of the claims that do occur. It's less costly to bury someone than to provide them with ongoing medical attention.

Yup bike mishaps kill the rider more often and they don't really cause much collateral damage. Insurance should be cheap.

When I wrote off my Vstrom I think I got a cheq for six grand, bike and gear. Thought at the time that was pretty good

The LED headlights on upper level Crosstreks cost half that all by themselves, God knows what a fender bender on the Lexus is worth

Forget online.  Contact a broker - heck, a couple different brokers - and ask for the best quotes they can find.

But dude, any 600cc sportbike for a newer rider in Ontario is going to be very lol.

Why not look at something like a Kawasaki Z400?  Naked bikes are almost invariably easier to insure than a sportbike equivalent and won't be any less fun to ride - particularly for a brand new rider.  Or a Duke 390?

So how does the registration work? Here is what I understand on the process is if I buy the bike AS IS
1) I go to service Ontario and get temporary plates. or is it a sticker? They don't issue stickers anymore.
2) I put the plates on, do safety
30 I line up at service Ontario and submit safety and get a new set of plates?

Is this accurate?

One of the sellers told me that you don't need to go to service Ontario two times, once I do step one I can convert temporarily to permanent plates online. I didn't see a link to it. So confused. Can someone help clarify?

Dukes are expensive. I saw a bmw 310 and i didnt like the power too much.. so more or less settled for 500cc. Ridersplus is 82/month which i can live with.
