Took half a day on Friday and am going bike shopping with the neighbor. He liked my Versys but when I brought the Boulevard home, he was completely smitten. Taking his motorcycle learner course in July and wants to go look at some Indians.....but will most likely end up on a used Boulevard-ish bike as his wife would kill him if he came home with a $30k+ bike to learn on.

 Can't imagine getting a perfect brand new Indian and then dropping it in the learning process, likely a few times

Thats where I'm trying to lead him to....there will be many tears  :rofl2:

Used metric cruisers are such a good deal that it would be silly not to go that route.

Thats where I hope to lead him. Dropping a used, $5-6k bike is bad but you won't need therapy lol
Lighten up Francis.....

Saturday evening, wilting after a full day on pavement with a 40 degree humidex, Mrs. Jaeger was convinced she's never pass the M2 course.  Sunday afternoon, she passed - with a perfect score no less.  New rider in the family.  ;D

Wokeism is nothing more than the recognition and opposition of bigotry in all its forms.  Bigots are predictably triggered.

That's great news man.  So does this mean some bike shopping is in your immediate future?  She couldn't just let you have one thing for yourself huh.

 :rofl2:

Lol given how opposed she was to me getting a motorcycle for MONTHS before I got one, could have knocked me over with a feather when she said - hey, that looks like fun, I think I might give it a try.

Def. some shopping in the near future, but just like last year at this time when I was looking for a bike, new stock is sparse and used prices are even more bonkers.  Literally 2 year old bikes with an asking price more than new right now.

It's great to have a wife into something that you enjoy (outside of the bedroom  :rofl2:).  So is this something that she wanted so you can go out someplace on your bike together, then you can have more than one drink and have her drive you back.  Riding :censor:?  LOL

She definitely wants to start on a 125 or 250 max.  She rode a Kawasaki 125 something-or-other on the course and said "the bike was so fast and felt so heavy".  ;D  Very lol, of course, but her two-wheeled frame of reference is a bicycle.  It would certainly suit her to get something that won't scare her as she's finding her comfort level riding on the street.  But fack, pickings are slim.

Well the good news is that the number of bikes under the 400cc mark that have come out over the past decade or so is quite a good selection.  Not the worst idea to go with a lower CC for her first bike.  If you were to go new, I'd say this would be a fantastic starter bike for her https://www.ktm.com/en-ca/models/naked-bike/ktm-200-duke-2022.html

I totally dig the Duke styling, but she finds it a bit aggro.  The Honda Rebel 500 is what she has in mind for her destination bike.  But in the interim she wants a Monkey:

Nothing wrong with a Monkey, she likely learned on something similar (Grom).  I would think she would outgrow it fairly quickly considering it isn't exactly a bike you take on road trips.  I feel like something a little bigger CC would give her a bit more freedom on rides.  I'd try to convince her to meet in the middle with the Honda Rebel 300.  It might be enough bike that she rides it for quite a while.  Not to mention it's only like $850 more, that's not much more money for quite a bit more bike.  Maybe try to sell her on the whole "better value" of it.

Cheers gents - and thanks for the offer Gurgie. I'll look into that Suzuki and run it by her.

The Monkey would definitely be a stepping stone, and bought with that in mind. If used prices are any indication, she won't lose money selling it in a year.

I actually did float the Rebel 300 as an option, but she says she doesn't want to buy a Rebel until she's ready for the 500, which would be the bike she rides for the forseeable future therafter.

Congrats to her!

I'd wager the Rebel 500 would likely be tame enough to be a beginner/forever bike. The cruiser style bikes are pretty mellow for the displacement. But I get that probably feels giant at first.
