Took a longer look at the CB650R - it's been growing on me slowly.  Definitely fits me very well.

Here's one idiot's review of the CB650  ;D :

https://canadamotoguide.com/2019/07/07/test-ride-2019-honda-cb650/

Cool - I shall read every word!

Good review man - thanks for pointing it out.  I think price is its biggest downside - I likewise have commented on how close it sits to the Z900 in price - but that bike is probably a bit imprudent for a beginner.  Speaking of imprudent, it might be a steaming pile of Italian garbage, but I am freaking in love with the Ducati Monster.   Don't worry, I'm not getting one.

As for being less sporty than some competitors - that's not a huge negative for me.  Just rolling on two wheels is going to be MASSIVELY fun to me and I won't be reaching or even approaching the limits of any bike on the road.  At least not intentionally.  :-X  But it's more than a fair point that someone prioritizing sport might find other alternatives more appealing.

yammie noob took one to the track.

Might have had better tires than stock, but I can say with certainty that my abilities won't exceed the bike's capabilities any time soon, or likely ever.  :rofl2:

And I do love the pearl grey colour available for 2021.

Oh, the new Monster rides surprisingly well; its weight loss can really be felt.

The lightness was evident just straddling the thing.  And such a gorgeous bike in the metal.

They've definitely fought that rep.  This thing has insanely long maintenance intervals now -- like FGC intervals.

It's not even that...just the hourly rate.

Go to a BMW or Ducati (or KTM to an extent) and the shop rates can be higher than an automotive OEM dealer.

I'm not getting a Ducati - so I'm not trying to defend the choice.  But comparative cost of servicing wouldn't factor in for me. Not that I'm made of money, but this is an indulgent toy -  it costs what it costs for servicing.  It's not like an oil change is going to be 4 times the price on a Ducati Monster versus a Honda CB1000R.

Now, what would deter me from a purchase is a bike that breaks down so damn often that you hardly get to ride it - regardless of whether the repair costs are covered under warranty.  That, and a bike that rusts if you look at it sideways - regardless of how easily that rust might be addressed.  ;)

it's Tuesday now..update?

It's here.  But I didn't get a chance for pictures....because the delivery guy made me late for work.  He also broke my mirror.

So I can either spill the beans now, or you can wait another day or so for me to snap a pic or two.

It's up to you.

We already know it's a burgman 650 executive

BMW C650GT is better...Burgman would be a downgrade IMO.

But no..it's a motorcycle.

Random noob questions.

1) I see multiple bike washing vids that recommend the bike be blown dry after washing.  What parts need the hair salon treatment and what blower do you use?

2) Paddock stands that hoist the rear wheel for chain cleaning - how do you know which one fits your bike and does your bike have to have those spool bobbins (or whatever they are called)?

3) Trickle chargers for winter storage - are they all the same thing or are there some that are better and if so which ones?

1) I'd say the chain and other steel parts.

2) If you don't have bobbins, you can get one with the L shaped bracket which just lifts your frame up.

3) I used Battery Tender for years no problem. I switched to Noco because they could do more -- SLA, AGM, Lithium, 6V (great for my RV batteries) or 12V. It can try to revive a very dead batteries too, the ones where some cells show 0V or close to it.
