I think he wants something more off-roady.
fun bike though?
Yea!!
I made my off-road model into a Supermoto model. The offroad model had flatslide carb and hotter cams, so it made better power.
On a CC basis though...the KTM 390 feels much more potent...and it's far cheaper than the DR-Z. A buddy had just bought a DR-Z SM and after riding my KTM he said he should have bought the KTM instead.
DR-Z tech is 20 years old, damn reliable though
Mine is a 2001,
Yep.
Pretty remarkable when you think about it.
It was leaps and bounds better than the DR350 in all regards...particularly engine performance.
And it has proved to be anvil reliable.
Yup, hard to go wrong with a DR-Z, but they are getting old now, if that matters.
Did some riding with a guy who has a DR650, it's pretty decent off-road and is a nice, simple bike. Air/oil cooled so no rads. Think I'll see if he wants to trade rides for a few miles and see what it feels like, in a few months.
At first glance it seems more off-road oriented than a KLR, but more road-friendly than a DR-Z. I think it's kinda in the middle and gets ignored.
