I'm considering getting a KLX300 250, Yamaha TW200 or some sort of quad for the spring....I'm kind of torn between a quad or some sort of more dirt oriented bike, not even considering a dirt bike.

Yamaha XT250? Are you looking at new only?

Well, I meant the KLX250, no, not at all. I don't want to dip my toe into trail riding with something I care a whole bunch about

2 stroke or GTFO.   ;D

Find an older KDX200 or 220.

I know literally less than nothing about two strokes.....now I'm back to looking at KLR650s, gawdammit, I think I should just stop f$%king around and get one as it will inevitable happen at some point anyways.

Are you looking for street legal?   How's your inseam?

Street legal for sure and the inseam is why I want to stay away from dirtbikes, I only have an inseam of ~31". I tried a friends dirtbike and I hated tip toeing.

So something between a Versys and a tall dual-sport.
 KLR is not light.

WR250 and lowering kit?
CRF230L
KLX250S

Good choices for a learner IMO.

i know nothing of these kind of bikes, but i know Ron likes them.

how about the Suzuki DR-Z400SM?

lightweight, street legal, reliable and a 4 stroke (not cheap though).  :)

and I need something to keep me busy so I’m not rushing into the next relationship. Lol.

Hookers FTW!!   ;D

Nice bike...I like those.  I thought those looked more interesting than the newer ones.

TurboBob had one.

Yep, got rid of it, along with the divorce!  :rofl2:

It's a great little bike, you could wring the neck of it and still be in legal speeds.

Don't worry DKaz, you'll be back on your feet in no time.

Awesome. I love the idea of a classic bike but I feel its probably more upkeep work than riding.

Yea!!

I made my off-road model into a Supermoto model.  The offroad model had flatslide carb and hotter cams, so it made better power.

On a CC basis though...the KTM 390 feels much more potent...and it's far cheaper than the DR-Z.  A buddy had just bought a DR-Z SM and after riding my KTM he said he should have bought the KTM instead.

Yep.

Pretty remarkable when you think about it.

It was leaps and bounds better than the DR350 in all regards...particularly engine performance.

And it has proved to be anvil reliable.

Yup, hard to go wrong with a DR-Z, but they are getting old now, if that matters.

Did some riding with a guy who has a DR650, it's pretty decent off-road and is a nice, simple bike.   Air/oil cooled so no rads.    Think I'll see if he wants to trade rides for a few miles and see what it feels like, in a few months.
At first glance it seems more off-road oriented than a KLR, but more road-friendly than  a DR-Z.   I think it's kinda in the middle and gets ignored.

It makes for a good platform, and there's a very solid aftermarket. You can even retro fit EFI. Yea, it's old, but they can be bought for a song and the money saved could be used to "update" whichever component you desire...somewhat future proofing or bringing up the specs.

Just like the KDX platform. Ancient, but with some parts from Fredette Racing, they can still be potent off road weapons.

I sure remember these. Widow maker is a good name for it. Stupidely fast, for the time anyway, much faster than the frame and suspension could manage. A local guy was badly injured on one of these.
