the Ninja 650 is actually a really good everyday bike...quick, but not stupid fast, relatively affordable and quite reliable.

I prefer the Honda 650R...prefer the I4 in this instance..
i like that one too...it is more money, but only $700 more so not a big deal...i'm guessing we should see some reviews of the Trident out in 4-5 weeks.
$700 for Ninja vs CBR?
Near me current prices are
2020 Ninja 650R is $7700 street price
2020 CBR 650R is $9700 street price
i'm just using MSRP from MFR websites...a $2k difference is worth thinking about...$700 isn't much of a difference, so i'd go with whatever you think is most comfortable, better looking, better equipped, etc.
When you've lost the argument, admit defeat and hit the smite button.

Is $16k expensive in the motorcycle world?

Nah.. F*ck it!  :rofl2: I dropped twenty something on the Triumph.

Also, there are only two things to know about bikes.

1. Get the bike you really want and love looking at, don't listen to logic, or anyone else.

2. Secondly, bikes are like watches. You get the one you really want, and then you see the use case for another.  :rofl2:

P.S. If you really want to be the daddy of Oakville, you need one of these:

Eek! That thing hurts my eyes!

But I guess it you only want bragging rights for biggest engine...she's the one!

Though I suppose if you REALLY wanted to over compensate, you could buy a Boss Hoss, which all have V8s LOL [emoji38]

8,100cc and feather light at only 1300lbs! [emoji44]

The MSRP is $8899 vs. $10399.

Unless you’re comparing naked bikes then it’s $8499 for the Z650 vs. $9699 for the CB650R.

sorry, i am looking at CB650R and Ninja 650...i thought that's what it was being compared to as we were talking about the CB650R and other naked street bikes...yes, the CBR650R (and other sport bikes) are more money.

Price for the Rocket 3 R doesn’t seem so bad to me.  Expensive for a bike.  But still.  That thing is stunning.
it's a neat bike, and rather unique, but the reviews i've read, the reviewers come away "meh" (much like the new BMW R18)...it's not bad, it's just people were maybe expecting more...it's got a huge engine, but not really any quicker than other muscle bikes (which are also very powerful), and with such a large engine, the range is quite limited.

personally (as much as i like the Rocket 3), i'd save the $10k and get the Suzuki M109R (which i also think looks good) and put a bit of that savings to aftermarket pipes:

Because I'm a cheap bastard & new motorcycles depreciate quickly & then eventually they seem to plateau... I'd buy used. Did that everytime in the past & pretty much broke even after owning the damn things for a few years.

Here's what I'd get for a bar hopper, city cruiser kinda bike.

^Stand next to either a Rocket III or a M109R if you want a reality check.
They are frakking huge, almost comically so IMO.

I like light bikes.  I mean, 800lb cruisers are ok if you're moving, try turning one around in your driveway and backing it into the garage

^^ good points...once a bike is like 10 years old, it will be worth that amount for pretty much ever (as long as it still runs and isn't a parts bike)...the bottom seems to be about 20% of what it was new and as long as they were looked after, nothing really wrong with used bikes (they typically don't get driven nearly as much as cars, nor in the same weather conditions).

We should compare apples to apples then. Naked vs. naked, sport bike vs. sport bike. Someone who's set on fairings might not look at a naked.

Well you can certainly get something cruiser-ish that weighs a hell of a lot less than 800 lb.

How about something like this, 440lbs.  Pretty cool and distinctive, like new and $7500

those are unique and interesting, but i'm not sure how reliable they are...dealers are very spread out too, so getting service may be tricky (the dealer who used to sell them here no longer does, so no dealer is close any more).

That's the thing though, looks are very subjective. I find most of the bikes Ron and DJ posted as either blobby looking, bagger-esque, or a bit Sons Of Anarchy. The Indian and the Triumph are just f*cking cool looking IMHO, they are styled in a way that says manly cool, and not, middle-aged accountant with a need for leather and tassels on the weekend. The Triumph (to me) also has a European edge to it. There is also a difference between retro chic, and just old looking. Again, all subjective.

Roger, also check out the Ducati Diavel X:

oh, i like all those bikes you posted, i just wouldn't personally buy one (but wouldn't fault someone else who did, they're still great bikes, just not for me).

but if Jaeger is looking for his first bike, i'm not sure a Rocket3 is a good place to start.

and Ducati's always look good in photos...but they have to, as it's all you'll be able to show people what you ride when it's in the shop.  :P

Agreed re the Indian. It's think it's about as perfect a design for a cruiser as can be. Tough to improve upon.

And I think the Triumph is, literally, bought by middle aged accountants...who don't have a need for leather and tassels...but have a need to say "See? I really do have a penis because this bike has a big engine and I can afford it! "

Plus that bike doesn't do anything particularly well. Too big and heavy to handle, slow for the firepower, and the engine doesn't even sound as glorious as other Triumph triples IMO.

In other words...it's nothing more than a pure fashion statement..in the worst way.

YMMV.
