the dealer by me has their demo for sale, complete with passenger seat and backrest and aftermarket exhaust...$16,295.

Solid.  I think I'll take the introductory riding course in the spring just for fun.
this type of bike is typically a bit "large" for a first bike...however, cruisers are generally a little more forgiving as the riding style is typically a little more relaxed (than a typical naked or sport bike, for example)...you're also not a 20 year old kid (and have a family and professional career) so your maturity also plays a factor...as long as you find it comfortable (i would imagine they are), it's a kind of bike you could buy and keep for quite some time...that's the only "disadvantage" of smaller "first bike" bikes...you generally tire of them quickly and buy something else the following year.

Oh I would look VERY closely at fit and comfort before dropping any coin at all.  But most of what I've read and watched seems very positive.  I think the Bobber 20 with the raised handlebars might be even better - less hunched over.  But I'd only be using this thing for short leisure rides - long distance touring doesn't appeal to me.

Wokeism is nothing more than the recognition and opposition of bigotry in all its forms.  Bigots are predictably triggered.

Short leisure rides look exactly like what it is made for.

Plus you can park it in the living room over the winter and just look at it!

Not sure I would spend 16 large on a first bike. Most people lay down a first bike even if just a low speed in a parking lot. Should be plenty of cheap 80s Japanese Cruiser types to learn on first.

I totally get that school of thought.

People said the same about buying a Pinarello for my first road bike. But there has been no n+1 for me. Nor will there be. If I should buy a motorbike, huge if, I would want to love it enough to not crave a second bike. Cheaper overall to buy your destination bike, than to buy and sell a few bikes on the way there.  And as mentioned above, I'd love just looking at this thing.

The thing about motorcycles is, once you have one, you realize you can't stop at just one.

Also, $16k wouldn't go very far in a fun sporty second car. This seems like a comparative bargain.

Maybe. But again, everyone said the same when I was getting into cycling. But I think if I get the one I REALLY want - as I did with my bicycle- I could find long term happiness.

There's one in Barrie for $14k.

Also...you can get the same looking bike, but with the smaller engine. Bobber 60 Scout In Smoke Black. Have seen those brand new for $12k.

I'd say for what you want to do with it...the smaller engine is the way to go. Save the cash for insurance LOL

the new Triumph Trident (660cc) looks like it would be a fun runabout bike too...plus, it's only $9k.

Is $16k expensive in the motorcycle world? I mean, you can spend more than that on a high end road bicycle. Not saying I have money to throw away - I sure don't- but it doesn't strike me as a ton of dough for what you're getting.

low end bikes start around $5-$6k (small engines, etc)...most "higher end bikes" start around $15k and go up into the $40k plus range (big touring bikes)...but it's all relative...if you REALLY love the looks of that $16k bike, think of what you get in a new car for $16k (not much to get excited about)...so in that way, bikes are a relative bargain...another tough pill to swallow for a bike like that as your first bike would be the insurance cost...it's likely going to be $2000 or more per year...you may want to get some sample insurance quotes in the spring before you start getting your chequebook out (just so you know what you are getting in to).

Yup...that's pricey (generally).

$10-$12k is normal.

Below that is considered cheaper end of spectrum.

But as with everything, it depends on what segment. It's not black and white. $16k COULD be seen as reasonable for the segment that Indian is in...as other Indians and Harleys can stretch to $30k.

You seem to be going to extraordinary lengths to avoid riding up hills on your Pinarello.   ;D

Good point on insurance. That hurts.

All this is less expensive than your typical Porsche...go for it!
I love it when a plan comes together.
