Snow line crept up a bit so we were able to hit the first real single tracks of the season.   So good for the soul. That is all.

yup...my first bike was an Elite 250 scooter (as you said, the Helix was a beefed up Elite)...the Helix wasn't very popular though (in terms of units sold), at least around here...the Elite 250 sold ok, the 150 was a bit better, and the 80 was pretty uncommon too...it's hard to say, scooter sales period are typically pretty low, which is too bad...they really are great commuter vehicles, even if you can only ride them half the year.

Canada never got the 2nd gen Elite 250 though right? While the Helix continued to sell into 2001. I don't think we got the 03 revival. Canada has a much smaller scooter market.

yea, you're likely correct...as i said, scooters aren't very common period, which is a shame...they really are great vehicles...my Elite 250 was a unit that was used by the instructors at the riding course (students rode the actual motorcycles)...i was actually going to buy the the Elite 150, but they gave me the demo 250 for less money and it only had something like 500 kms on it...it did have a little scratch on the lower area (maybe they parked/drove too closely parallel to a curb?)...it was a sandy gold colour, so never looked dirty either.  :)

well, i didn't choose that colour, it was just there, they offered it, i accepted it...i think the other colour available at the time was red, which is what i would have chosen if i could pick a colour...since it was a demo, it was either take that or buy the 150 which is what i had a deposit on (which was also red).

I had to wash my bike today as it attracts a lot of attention on the street as is and about 10 fold when dirty. Lots of stares from Calgary's finest.

What tires do you have on it, they look a bit more streetable than my Trakmasters?

They sure are. These are my "street wheels", Continental TKC80s. You can really push these on the pavement. The 500 can spin the rear up when it is chilly out so you can step out the rear at will. They are good off road except for muddy conditions in which case they suck. I was able to ride some tough singletracks with them and they got me through, I just have to be more delicate. They came with the bike.

My "dirt wheels" are currently shod with a Pirelli Scorpion Pro front and a Pirelli MT16 rear. When this street set is gone I may go back to the TKCs or perhaps a Pirelli Scorpion Rally front and a Dunlop D606 rear.

But wait, the scooters we post need motorcycle licenses to ride. Explain that.

they are motorcycles...they are simply motorcycles with CVT transmissions and engines that are typically on the smaller size as they are mostly used for urban commuting.

Nice bike btw. I had a growing suspicion you had one street legal bike in your stable.

Right.
Quality is never an accident; it is always the result of high intention, sincere effort, intelligent direction, and skillful execution; it represents the wise choice of many alternatives.
