It's the Royaldistributing tent sale.  I'm picking up a couple friends along the way and heading to Oshawa tomorrow morning.  Anyone else go to these annual events?

Gonna also hit GP Bikes which is next door.

Well that was a bust.  All I got was a tire-tube, it's slightly too large, but the closest I've found.  I needed two  :P

My buddies bought some stuff, but I couldn't find a helmet that I liked.   Sales were not as good as last year at either shop.

Still, we had a good time, ate quantities at the Mongolian Grill.

My bike made it across the ocean and arrived today at my doorstep !!  :bounce:

The weather was perfect (18°C and sunny), so of course I took it for a ride. Was surprised it started right up- I just cleaned the dust off it and filled up the petrol (12,20€.....hmmm pricey)

Wouldn't you know, I imported my bike into Europe. That, plus my new riding gear......super awesome.

Now about that irritating traffic and subpar German pavement.......

Spent my Sunday afternoon wandering around the pretty good roads where I now live. Got to be a bit careful given all the decreasing-radius turns but it's nice to not have "suburbs". You're in town, and then once you leave town, you're free to be on your own.

It's nice that this stuff's all in my backyard.

Awesome road, miin32! Happy to be back in Europe? How much did it cost to ship your bike back? It must attest your love for that bike if you chose to ship it there rather than sell in the USA and get a new bike back home.

so, all this 390 Duke talk had me curious...i called my insurance company for a quote on a 2017 KTM 390 Duke.

$1m liablility
$500 deductible
full coverage

$543/year

was a bit more that i thought it would be, as the CB400F i was quoted on in 2016 was only $277/year, but that was 2 years ago, was an older bike (1975 vs 2017, although i can't see why that would make much difference)...he said each model has a rating, which is how it is priced...i would have thought the new bike would technically be safe considering it has ABS, etc, but whatever...i guess it is what it is.

ron, did you end up getting that 390 Duke from Chestermans?

Germany has been a bureaucratic nightmare but on the whole I'd rather be here than in America. The riding is excellent- did a short ride today (Labour Day holiday today) and there's tons of fun even within a 30km radius. Google search Spessart and Odenwald.....quite the playground. I'm a bit timid cuz the roads are all new to me and I'm still on US plates but over time I'll get to know the roads.

Yes, it cost a chunk to ship "just a 320cc" over, but I like the bike quite a lot and I also put a lot of money into it. The power-hungry people of Germany and US may not think much of its power, but it is plenty for the fun roads around here. A lot of the roads in Europe are very old, so things like blind, decreasing-radius curves are very frequent and unmarked. The 320cc lets me rocket out of town limits and in between corners without having the putain moments. Also, many backroads are not fully two-vehicle widths and as you can see, don't have run-off so there's a degree of maturity required.

I'll try to get on the track some point this summer though.

And in Manitoba with the same coverage it would cost nearly $1400 per year...

Went to the KTM/Kawasaki/Suzuki dealer yesterday, they had an old RC390 for $3999.  :o

Then went to the BMW/Ducati/Triumph/Vespa dealer to sign up for BMW demo day, sat on a Piaggio Liberty S 150, really nice scooter for $4500 OTD. 12.3 HP engine, front ABS.

I intend to ride it fairly hard (supermoto style) on unimproved roads. I'm almost sure I will drop it a couple of times. I'm sure I'll have issues with lack of power.  I like to be able to snap the throttle coming out of a corner and being able to cross the bike up...not sure the 390 will be potent enough to do it.

My first order of business will be break in. I don't like how I'll need to keep the break in oil in there for 1000kms! Oil capacity is a mere 1.6l I'm not sure how I feel about this aspect. Ideally, I'd like to do 2 maybe 3 oil changes within the first 1000km. One after 50km, and another after 500km for sure. But you can't buy the break in oil.

Also, KTM fueling (everyone, really) comes from the factory extremely lean. I didn't think it would be an issue, as I'd just put the Akropovic fuel map on the ECU. But apparently KTM is no longer allowing dealers to use this map for street bikes. Not the end of the world, as a simple fuel controller (Rapid Bike Easy) is only $160. Though I think I'd go Rapid Bike EVO (or similar) because it allows constant auto-tuning via O2 sensors to reach target A/F values.

We'll see!
