All these bikes seem like bargains. My FE501 was $15k.... A long list of mods and aftermarket parts but still.  ;D.

Went to the vigil yesterday, about 100 people were there on the median of the Anthony Henday to pay respects to this young father.

Bike ran into the back of a vehicle that slowed down and may have been moving lanes or blocking? Tough environment right now, cold pavement, gravel, bad light and drivers not used to bikes on the road. Stay safe.  Waiting for the details on this one. Years ago I saw something similar in person with a sportbike grabbing a fistful of throttle right into the back of a semi. Bike didn't realize the semi was going slow. It was awful.

I think fault on this one is still up in the air. Here is a crazy story. Can't fix stupid.

since we're talking about bikes again, Triumph's new Speed Twin looks pretty sweet...$13,300 in black or $13,800 in red or silver (i like the silver one myself).

Back to the Speed Twin -- no doubt it'd be a great machine, but something tells me I'd rather the Kawi Z900RS instead.  It's got gobs of style, but is also really fun to ride with its sizzling 4-cyl.

The one on the right reminds me of the very first 900 from Kawasaki. Awesome bikes in their times.

The Journey was observed swerving lanes to impede the motorcycles from passing then brake checked them. This was confirmed by drivers who saw what happened. I was not feeling good yesterday knowing that there are drivers in our town who want to kill us.

People do stupid :censor: like that here all the time.  This doesn’t surprise me at all. On the way home from the ski hill today this idiot woman in a new 4Runner was very purposely blocking the person in front of me from merging onto the freeway.

Why?  Why would you do that?  The person merging did absolutely nothing wrong. Just trying to get onto the freeway.

There’s just a lot of a-holes on the road and they have 5000lb weapons at their disposal.

I think I'm more amazed by the fact it's riding season in Edmonton of all places, when it's still snowing here!

So this all happened out of the blue? Journey driver went full crazy for no reason? Wtf?

The riders could have done something to anger the driver but the riders had no interaction with the driver until they caught up with the driver, hence the driver’s position of being in front of them. That’s the scary part that we could trigger a driver’s anger that easily. They were likely going faster than the flow of traffic to catch up but come on, there’s no excuse to kill a rider.

The riders still think the driver will claim they panicked at the sight of motorcyclists rapidly coming up behind them, swerved around, then rapidly slowed down. Or the rider didn’t maintain safe follow distance as the driver swerved around trying to impede their forward movement. It’s still no excuse to ever kill a rider.

Maybe it was extreme careless driving? The evidence doesn’t support it though.

Oh I see that way too often here. I think half the time it’s because people think people merging from an on-ramp have to yield (thank goodness the NDP are unprivatizing the driving exam industry), and half the time people drive with extreme tunnel vision.

I think I'm more amazed by the fact it's riding season in Edmonton of all places, when it's still snowing here!

Well it’s not warm enough for the fairweather riders to get out and there are slippery spots here and there but the freeway where the crash occurred is among the best maintained everywhere and is always bare within days after a snowfall. Road conditions played no part in the crash.

Environment Canada says Edmonton will hit 16°C Thursday.

Let us know if there is an update to the story. Even with lugged enduro tires IMO too early for a bike in AB.

On an internet forum?  Sorry but unless you are running cold weather specific tires on your bike the rubber compound is simply too stiff for the temps we are seeing. It decreases tire traction for things like braking.

I can’t see how I’d get a motorcycle out of my cul de sac. The street is still snow covered. The Miata for sure wouldn’t make it.

Past the residential streets the main roads are in good shape. Getting to and from them would be a real struggle for me.

From what the other riders who were with him said, the way the driver cut off and brake checked the rider, ideal summer conditions would not have made a difference. And it was not -7 at the time, it was +4.

I’ve been hurt by this so please respect my healing process. Your comment is irrelevant to this accident.

I’m in Calgary if you want to grab a beer tonight and discuss. I’m all up for talking about this face to face, but this is just added noise from all the negative comments our fallen brother has received online and it’s disrespectful. And I’m taking it personally because I’ve been riding since Tuesday out of necessity and it feels like people are sentencing me to death. So if you want to talk, let’s find a place to grab a beer.

I'm in Fernie...

I am sorry if my tire compound early season comments sounded like I dismissed the the bike accident. Hopefully the driver of the van is charged if the police find them at fault. It is tragic event that unfortunately seems to happen all the time.  My point is be careful in the early season, just because the air temp has come up doesn't mean the tarmac follows suit. It has a much slower delta. Bikes need all the conditions in their favour to respond to the clueless drivers out there.  Like I said before, stay safe.

and with that the snow has now gotten soft enough for some spring turns.
