Thought about it but I'd be roaming often. Still, $75/mo for 10GB and a phone like an iPhone XR seems like a good deal.
I see Kelowna just got Freedom coverage finally.
I got my oldest kid on Lucky Mobile which runs off Bell's network, $25/mo for unlimited Canada wide and 1 GB of data if paying automatically every month (500 MB otherwise), but they also have $15/mo for 100 min/250 MB, $40 for unlimited/4.5 GB, and $50 for unlimited/8.5 GB. It's only at 3G speeds but the coverage is anywhere you get a Bell signal. Public Mobile (Telus) and ChatR (Rogers) offers the same plans and price points.
I wasn't going to get him a cell phone plan as he's only 10 but the ability to let him go play around the neighbourhood and know where he is is good peace of mind. When school is in session, I'm going to downgrade him to the $15 plan. The only thing he's allowed to do on data is message and Facetime us which is surprisingly efficient on bandwidth. It's nice too that I can set all restrictions on his phone from my phone, and wiping his phone does not take those restrictions away unless I allow it. Only thing is that they only allow one downtime per day which I set for bed time, it would be good to have a second one for during school. Sent that feature request to Apple.
