I took my iPhone 6S into the Apple store today to get a new battery. After 2 1/2 years, the old battery was still at 84%, so they tried to talk me out of it. Uh, no thanks. New battery for $35, please.

I also brought my wife's phone in for a new battery as well. Surprisingly, her battery was 90%, even though her phone is a regular 6 and over 3 years old. Not sure if the new battery was worth it for her, as she's been having other issues with the phone and may very well replace it shortly anyway. Oh well, figured we may as well try. Hopefully she gets another 6 months out of it at least.

I plan to do the same for my 6.  I got it for zero down as part of a contract about 2 1/2 years ago and I've noticed that many apps don't seem as quick, implying that there is some throttling going on.  At $35 for a new battery, it's a good deal when compared to getting a new phone.  I also had my plan reduced to a Bring Your Own Device status after the 2 year mark, making it an even better deal.

I should do the same for the wife's old iPhone 6.  She has an 8 now, but the 6 still makes a good backup phone.  The battery is pretty bad on it, so for $35, why not extend the life of it?

First day using the Pixel 2 XL and I'm finding it significantly faster than my S8+.  It's refreshing to be back to a simplified Android and no bloatware.  Just one day in but all positive so far.

Faster doing what for example?

I know faster on a cell phone is hard to quantify in words...

Finger print scanner is significant, opening apps is noticeable, auto focusing with the camera to name a few.

Ah ok.  Well I don't use 2 out of those 3 functionalities.   :rofl2:

I guess I'll keep clunking along with my S8!!   ;D

The OS is just so much cleaner and faster without all of the added crap from Samsung.  You'd notice it if you tried both back to back.

Well I always uninstall/disable the Samsung stuff.  And much of the google stuff.  I'm quite certain I use my phone in a quite a different fashion than you.  It's "just a phone" to me..and I frequently go 3 days out of the week without even touching it.

But yea...I agree...I'd have to see back to back if there's any speed difference.

could also be just that there's a lot of app caches and crap like software update left over files on the old phone making it slow.
i find that when my phone slows down, i do factory reset and it's blazing fast again.

many reviews claimed S8 to be one of the best phones of last year, which the pixel 2XL competed against, so performance should be comparable if brand new vs brand new.

My Galaxy S9+ showed up today.  The case I ordered from Amazon arrived literally 20 minutes before the phone did.  Perfect.

The box that the phone showed up in was larger and heavier than I was expecting.  Turns out Rogers included a free Samsung wireless charging pad, and didn't tell me they were including it.  So, that was a nice surprise.  That's like a $60-$70 bonus.

Having said that, I've recently noticed a fairly significant decrease in battery life on my S8+, and it's not quite a year old yet.  I never noticed that on my previous Nexus 6.  Might go back to a Google phone next time around.

Not sure if you've resolved it yet but my S8+ had a similar issue...resolved it by turning off Google Location History and a factory reset. I'm getting really good battery life now (ended yesterday around 40% battery with 4.5 hours of screen on time).

After a month and a half of Google ignoring my emails to them, asking for an update on my case, Google FINALLY got back to me today with someone from the Advanced Hardware Support Team.

I got to politely tell them that I am no longer a customer of Google, that they lost my business after 3 malfunctioning devices, and a month and a half of no communication from their end.  I know I'm a small fish in a large pond, but still, each customer should be important enough to address promptly.
I'll have a hard time going back to a Google phone in the future, although I'm not ruling it out completely.  Confidence has been shaken, that much can be said.

BTW, I'm enjoying my Galaxy S9+.  I think I finally have it set up the way I like it.  I miss some features of my Pixel, like the front-and-center Google Assistant.  But, for the most part, my S9+ does everything and more that my Pixel 2 XL used to do.

I'm enjoying Samsung Health, and the app is actually changing some of my habits.  I'm tracking my food intake with it, which is encouraging me to drop sugar from things like coffee, and better regulate portion control.  It is also tracking my steps, which is encouraging me to walk more.  For the first time in years, I've actually set a goal to lose weight, including a target weight that I'd like to be at.

I used the provided (quite excellent) earbuds and listened to a music mix while walking my 4500 steps yesterday, and found Samsung's onboard audio to be most excellent.  So far, the phone is working for my lifestyle, and actually seems to be promoting me to lead a healthier lifestyle (I was already trending towards that, but the phone seems to be helping).

A woman at work also had a bunch of issues with Google support. First they said they'd replace her phone, then they didn't get back to her for weeks and weeks, and then finally they refused to replace her phone. Pretty terrible.

Well, even for thirty five bucks, not sure the battery change was worth it. Can’t say that I notice any difference in how long it lasts. Might even be worse, actually.

10:30 am today and I’m already at 58%. Was 100% at 8:00 and I haven’t even used it much. What the hell? ???

Stats for Q1 2018 There's more to life than Samsung and apple.

Samsung has 20% market share, iphone has 14% and the rest (all Android) have 65%.

My phones are all "other". Moto, LG, Blackberry.
The Moto Z Play cost 1/3 of the Galaxy S8 and 1/4 of the iphone x. (I paid $350 at Staples on sale for about half price).

Comparing the above phones - all are Super Amoled, all 4K video, all are Quick charge, two have headphone jacks, two have microSd cards, two have fingerprint scanners, one has a face scanner that doesn't work very well. Moto battery outlasts Samsung by 16 hrs and iphone by 26 hrs. And moto is almost completely stock Android. Mine has updated to Oreo a couple weeks ago.

By the way - my 6 year old Galaxy S3 battery still fully charges. It's now a remote for my Harmony Hub.

Android pretty much rules.

And yes, my old Samsung S2x still charges.  I use it as a shot tracker/gps for golf!

Isn't it, though?

I took this one at my hotel in Tempe, AZ.

I just signed up for my second Public Mobile prepaid account.
I signed my girlfriend up a couple of months ago because she uses the phone very little.
It is $10/mo minus $2/mo if you autopay with a credit card.
So 50 mins and 50 texts and unlimited incoming texts for 10-2= $8/mo.

Now for a limited time - if you sign up at Walmart you get a free sim, a $20 credit applied within 72 hours
and a $10 referral if you know someone already with Public and $1/mo off the referrer's account.

So now I'm paying $15/mo for two accounts.

BUT WAIT - THERE's MORE -
we got an offer on the first line to "bring your own phone to Koodo and get a 100 mins and untimited lexts for $15/mo with a $30 credit."

It's great to have unlocked phones laying around.
