^^ exactly.  ...and hence why Apple's $79 was a reasonable cost, IMO, and $35 is simply amazing PR to shut the world up about a "wrong" Apple never did to its consumers.

Just holding my S8 without a case scares the crap out of me.  :shuffle:  It is so freaking thin and so freaking slippery.
Wokeism is nothing more than the recognition and opposition of bigotry in all its forms.  Bigots are predictably triggered.

...but then she opened the box to the charger and realized there was no USB-C male-male cable in the box.  Apple had the nerve to sell the charging cube thing without the necessary cable to connect it to the :censor: laptop!!  So, unless we buy a cable from Apple, which costs $25.00:

Any way, just ordered the cable - $28.25 taxes in and free shipping ;D

You could have bought one for $13.99 from Amazon.  USB-C is USB-C.  Doesn't have to be Apple to work.

What class action lawsuits?  They indicated they could do this in the Terms of Service which nobody ever bothers to read.  It's not like they hid it.  They just didn't point it out or advertise it.  Until now.

They hid it.  Burying an out to screw over their customers in the terms of service that nobody reads is a form of hiding it - and a very effective form at that.  They are not shy about loud public announcements about products and upgrades but go stone silent when they are doing something sneaky and underhanded.  And they are being sued.  For doing absolutely nothing wrong, no doubt.  ::)

They will either go nowhere, or will be settled and buried and nobody will hear about it ever again.

You mean they will pay out huge amounts to settle but insist on a non disclosure clause so as to maintain plausible deniability of wrongdoing? Yes, that seems likely.

Of course if they have actually done nothing wrong, they will refuse to pay a single cent. I'll be surprised if that happens. I don't think they want ANY judicial scrutiny of what went down here.

This won't affect Apple one iota.  They have the deepest pockets in the world.  To them it's just the price of doing business, and will be written off as another expense line item.

The payout won't affect them one iota. A trial on the merits and the discovery process that precedes it  just might. Hence my prediction of  a payout.

I ended up buying an almost new Pixel 2 XL off of Kijiji today.  I haven't had much time to use it yet as I'm transferring everything over from my S8+ to it.  But I really love how easy peasy it is to transfer apps, texts, settings, pics, etc over to a new phone.

Rogers has my new Galaxy S9+ in the mail, and I'll be sending my Pixel 2 XL back to them when it gets here.

They were originally going to send me an S8+, but then I looked at reviews, and the S9+ fixed what I didn't like about the S8, including but not limited to:

Fingerprint scanner is now centered on the back of the phone, where it should be
Android 8.0 Oreo (S8 is still on Android 7
Stereo Speakers
Significantly better camera than the S8.

I called Rogers, and convinced them to send me an S9+ instead.  They acquiesced.  No cost to me (other than what I already paid for my Pixel 4 months ago.

S8 has been on Oreo for several weeks..maybe a month, man.

And FWIW, there are some features I like less on Oreo.

I took my iPhone 6S into the Apple store today to get a new battery. After 2 1/2 years, the old battery was still at 84%, so they tried to talk me out of it. Uh, no thanks. New battery for $35, please.

I also brought my wife's phone in for a new battery as well. Surprisingly, her battery was 90%, even though her phone is a regular 6 and over 3 years old. Not sure if the new battery was worth it for her, as she's been having other issues with the phone and may very well replace it shortly anyway. Oh well, figured we may as well try. Hopefully she gets another 6 months out of it at least.

I like that I can get US roaming and data for the four months I winter in the US for $20 per month.

I've been on Oreo for months now, first with my Nexus, then with my Pixel.  Stepping back to Nougat would seem like, well, a step backwards.

Anyway, glad to hear the S8 finally got Oreo.  I WILL be sad I won't be first in line to get Android P anymore, as I would have been had I kept my Pixel.

I plan to do the same for my 6.  I got it for zero down as part of a contract about 2 1/2 years ago and I've noticed that many apps don't seem as quick, implying that there is some throttling going on.  At $35 for a new battery, it's a good deal when compared to getting a new phone.  I also had my plan reduced to a Bring Your Own Device status after the 2 year mark, making it an even better deal.
