The GT-R is still a great vehicle, even so many years after its release here in NA (this gen was released in what, 2009 or so?)

I'm glad to see Nissan has kept refining and improving the GT-R year after year.  Too bad the price has jumped so much as well - at 80K when it was launched, what a steal.  At 125K, that's a whole 'nuther level of competition.

Hopefully Nissan will learn something from its GT-R experience during the next-gen Z model run - update the damn car once in a while, don't let it wither on the vine for a decade!

I freaking love this car.  I love the ass-kicking it delivered to cars twice its price and more when it was released.  Some people love to hate it.  I just freaking love it.

Was curious about sales numbers. Interestingly, 2016 saw its best ever Canadian sales and worst ever U.S. sales: http://www.goodcarbadcar.net/2011/01/nissan-gt-r-sales-figures.html

Me too! Sounds like it might almost be practical enough to be a daily driver.

Great write up and review!!! I am a huge fanboy of the R35.....just like I was, and still am, of the R32, 33 and 34. This car is all absolutely a monster and getting a ride and drive in my buddies was by far my most exciting automotive experience. I would love to have one in the garage, to me they are the ultimate monster and having a pet Godzilla sounds like a great time to me.
Lighten up Francis.....

I loved the GT-R until I drove it.  Then I LOVED LOVED LOVED it.  Anyone that says it's sanitized or dull or whatever hasn't driven one.  It's about sensory overload.  The great thing is that you can bumble along on traffic like you're driving a family sedan and then you "release the Kraken" and you can barely hold on.

I would love a three pedal version, but the tech focus of the car suits the fast shifting auto box.

I've never driven one, but your post John is exactly what I've always thought/dreamed about regarding Godzilla.

My toy cars have always been equipped with 3 pedals, and it's hard to fathom giving that up...........but this might be one of the few cars that I'd forego the third pedal.

It's cars like this where having a 3rd pedal would hinder you because the car accelerates so fast.  It was the same in my Supra.  IIRC, it was Bob (after driving my car) who said had my car been a stick, he wouldn't have been able to keep up with the revs.  And he's right.  It seems impossible, but some cars accelerate and rev so quickly, you'd struggle to keep up.
How fast is my 911?  Supras sh*t on on me all the time...in reverse..with blown turbos  :( ...

Oh, for sure the GT-R would be slower with a manual.  I've driven some ridiculously  fast machines, and the GT-R still surprised me at how hard it digs and makes speed.  The AWD is so well sorted out for making speed.  Ron's right, I bet a lot of people would blow the 1-2 shift with a manual.  It comes up SO fast.

The 1-2 shift comes up so blazingly fast, you could shoot up a kilo of speed and not keep up to it.

I have that video, Best Motoring is fantastic and that R34 is insane, almost a crotch rocket the way it revs.
