WSBK 2017
« on: February 07, 2017, 09:50:11 pm »
Interesting!!  Honda debuts a new CBR1000 this year..and their top team, Ten Kate just landed a massive sponsorship deal.

This should help immensely!

I'm a big fan of Nicky and hope he does even better this year!

Castrol FTW!!!

Choosing a car based on reliability is like choosing a wife based solely because she is punctual. There is more to it than that...

it isn't listed on the Honda Canada website, but the new RC213V-S is listed on the USA site.

http://powersports.honda.com/rc213vs.aspx

sell the house, she ain't cheap...no price is currently listed there, but there was one a few weeks ago...something like $185k.

Wrong class.  That's essentially their street legal MotoGP machine.

This is the bike used in WSBK.  The new CBR1000SP2  ~190hp 429lbs wet.   $25K USD.

Oh, that's more like it.  I was thinking "I bought a 750SB semi-built chassis (frame, basic suspension and engine) for $10K, but that was in 1982, inflation??"  Actually, a turn key bike for $25K is a nice price.

It's not turnkey for WSBK.  Because homologation rules exist, they have to produce the bike they use to race.  So they add in some bits and specs to the "SP" over the regular version...otherwise they couldn't use those parts to race.

The true cost of a race ready WSBK machine is ~$275,000 USD.  MotoGP?  $2 million+  :o

Man, things have changed in Superbike!  Ouch!  Privateers in the early 80s could run a fairly competitive bike for about $20K st the starting line of your first race, and if you kept the rubber side down on the track you'd keep costs pretty low.  Of course, back then the bikes were really not far off street bikes (privateer bikes, anyway) and the series was small.

sorry, i didn't mean it was that particular class...just showing they sell what is essentially a street legal REAL race bike.

no idea what the specs are for it, but i'm sure its pretty sick.

some details are here:

^^215 HP (with kit), 419lbs wet.

But that doesn't tell the whole story.

And the sound...OMG...it's 100% identical to the MotoGP bike....

yea, i'm sure it's much more than the HP and weight...likely suspension, chassis, etc are all top spec.

What exactly happened? He collided with the other bike, we can then see the front fender sideway, then he lean out the bike on the wrong side and fall off???

I'm guessing the fender took out the brake line, or pushed the calipers piston back...no brakes.

He bailed to save injury.

yea, one thing about those races, is the riders have top notch gear and know how to "crash"...factor in the space off the track and it allows them to dismount and ditch the bike with relative ease...might still get a bit injured, hopefully just bruises and scrapes, but MUCH better than if that happened on the road where you hit a tree or another car (or the Isle of Mann race where you hit the stone walls).
