"The name Qashqai comes from a nomadic Persian tribe that seasonally traversed the tough terrain that is now Iran, traveling with their flocks from highland to lowland pastures"

∆∆ and you wonder why they won't use that name in the US?  You do realize Trump is going to be calling the shots for a while...

We all hate the powertrain in the Rogue.  Sure, this is smaller, but the 2.5L, or even the Juke's motor, would have been a better pairing. How much will this thing weigh?

And 19" wheels?  Who are you targeting?!  At least 16 and 17 are available.

I'm sure Nissan will make money on it, but the execution is poor in my opinion.

That's great. Is only the Renegade available with that combo in this class? The Patriot and Compass offered it as well but they are on their way out.

I'm sure they are hoping this will prove to be the Nissan Cashcow, but I can't say I'm overly fond of the name.

It's no wonder Nissan is piggybacking this on the Rogue name in the U.S. The sold something like 40k Rogues last month there.

I suspect the manual tranny with AWD ones will be like unicorns.

This is the worst vehicle name since VW gave us the Touareg.

the new compass is on its way in though, and looks to be pretty decent.

i had a nice reply typed up first thing this morning, but the site wasn't taking my post for some reason, so i closed the window as i had to leave for work.

basically, i said that the name was going to be tough to market (advertise) and that while i'm not expecting a V8 in this class, i think a NA 2.0L is likely going to be pretty soft in power...i'm sure this vehicle in upper trims (AWD, CVT, etc) will likely hover around 3500 lbs...add people to that, and it's a lot of weight for 141 HP...sure, some won't care, but others in the class at least have an upgraded engine option...i'm wondering if most won't simply step up to a Rogue, as i'm sure the price gap won't be much.

Exactly - because Trump would freak out with Qashqai for the reasons I posted about above :P

Or it might be following what Mitsu did with the RVR, where it was the Outlander Sport in the US, too.  ...but then again, who would follow in Mitsu's shoes for anything :|

:iagree: that the Crosstrek, especially once moved to the new global platform, will again be tops.  It's in dire need of an update.

Just busting on ya' Mike!  I'm pretty sure the Crosstrek - even at the end of it's model run, and down a cog in the M/T - will be more than competitive with this Nissan.   I'd love to see Nissan hit one out of the park here, but I'm going to predict that:
a) the N/A 2.0L will be severely underpowered - probably weighs at least as much as the Crosstrek, but output won't be any higher, and
b) the M/T will only be available as a loss-leader ad special.

Jeep's new Compass, OTOH, I think has more potential.  IF the quality/reliability is actually decent, for once...

... Did you see tooscoops's deal of the day?!  If they discount the Compass like the Cherokee, it'll sell like hotcakes.
