Rev's ongoing buy/sell thread
« Reply #940 on: October 12, 2021, 11:31:36 pm »
Honestly, replacing a frame is something I wouldn’t attempt. I know it’s common practice on Tacoma’s and I hear a good Toyota tech with a hoist can do the job in 7 hrs.

But yeah, she had a good run @ nearly 500k. Actually thinking may turn it into my snowplough truck. Currently have a 73 Chevy doing the job that has hardly any floor left. And being carbureted it’s a real pita to get going. Plus the hvac system in the newer truck is 100x better.

The Taco's had a massive frame recall, and with reason! Good idea to put the truck on snowplow duty! Just don't put it on a lift  ;D

I remember seeing rows of Tacomas lined up at the local dealer waiting for new frames. Didn't the same thing happen to the first gen Tundra as well?

I thought the first gen recall was for the spare tire cross member rotting?  Guess I’m not keeping up.

Here in Ontario guys would frame swap that Silverado in a heartbeat - body that clean just doesn't exist around here unless your paying $15K+ or bringing something in from the South. It is a lot of work though, and you've gotta go out and source a clean frame.

Well the old Chevy went off to a new home today. We ended up selling for $500 less than I paid for it….and we kept the excellent tires and tossed a set of steel rims with gravel chewed tires on it. It’ll ride again as a body shop owner bought it. He’s going to fix up the frame and resell it. I’m happy to hear that as the old thing just ran so nice.

Bought this 2006 Yukon Denali XL about a month ago. Owner was in his 70’s, said he had people in the rear seats twice, never used the rear DVD player even. It saw only two winters in Canada as they wintered in Arizona. Unfortunately, a transmission cooler line let go and ran the trans out of oil. The line was replaced but the transmission is unhappy, slipping pretty good after the incident.

Anyway, it gets a remanufactured GM transmission(hopefully) next week. Broken supply chain has me waiting for the replacement still. It’s really hard to find them rust free, and probably even harder to find one that has never had kids in the back destroying the interior. Truck has 267k and the most expensive repair it had was the rear “auto ride” suspension repairs.

Very nice. Is it RWD or did I forget how low trucks use to sit?

God that's nice. Keeping it or moving it on? I am curious what you get for it, interest and prices on clean GMT800s are really starting to heat up.

Our Escalade is also at 267K as of today. I did replace the rear air shocks when I got it nearly 6 years ago now, but the rest of the auto-levelling system continues to work well.

I always say I’m going to keep and never do. But this one I’m going to keep! We’ve had a 2012 suburban, 2010 Escalade ESV, 2006 Escalade ESV (probably would’ve kept if it wasn’t lowered) and the 97 Suburban, all inside 2 years. Wife’s getting upset lol. So I’d better keep this guy. I’ll take some interior shots when I get it home from the shop, it’s stupid clean inside.

And yes, along with everything else I’m noticing a huge uptick in GMT800 prices, especially trucks. But a low mileage SUV is also worth a pile. If you go by average driving these all have north of 300k on them. They don’t die, so basically rot away before they’re done.

One thing I MUST fix is the tree burnt out steering wheel control backlights. That drives me nuts.

;D I have at least one burnt out too, maybe more. Since it's the kid hauler it doesn't get driven much at night  :rofl2: I do have a set of perfect steering wheel buttons (from the Canadian Tire Ice Truck....if anyone remembers that) to put in - just one those things that's been near the bottom of my to-do list for years, lol.

If it wasn't for the fact Rev's no longer in AB, I'd have wondered if he didn't pick this beauty up:

I think my lil bro gave it away.  Rust free, but 2wd and not an extended cab or crew - so maybe he's right but I think he could've gotten more.  They guy who bought it (GM mechanic) handed him the money, and said, you could've asked more (after gnawing him down $200 on his $4200 asking price).

That's OK though, he only paid $1500 for it last year - neighbour died and his wife sold it to my bro for a smokin' deal.  Now that was a helluva deal. Even if this isn't the best looking truck ever.

it looks just like the 4x4 I had (earlier in my thread). He could’ve got more, especially rust free. Nice truck. Regular cabs are not all that common.

Most of the those 2WD regular cabs are also base models instead of the nicer LS.

Which motor did it have?
