Oh geeze. That's just a shell winched out of a farmers field

Thats like the $12k Olds 442 I looked at. It was in pieces, on a trailer, not a lick of floor left, bumper to bumper, engine block left open to the elements without the heads on a stand....guys response, "its all numbers matching"  ::) Great, that definitely makes it worth it.
Lighten up Francis.....

That eBay one doesn't look terrible...Yeah, it's rough, but it looks like a really sold start to a resto. Floors and trunk look solid, engine bay looks rust free and not cut-up, most of the trim is present, wheels look good, and aside from the driveline it looks pretty well complete. People start with much worse all the time.

I guess as stuff gets older and more rare, it is what it is

The last time we went through Montana all sorts of old unrestored iron seemed to be daily drivers still. Crazy what you'd see chugging along

Yeah, I mean, a '64 GTO is approaching 60 years old! The fact that it's still on this earth and largely in one piece, is pretty amazing. Some of these cars, have gone through the 'normal lifecycle' a few times over...

Been taking a break from social media and forums, miss the autos crowd the most though! Hope y’all aren’t tired of my sometimes ridiculous heaps. I have a few newbies.

This super duty is a 1999. Actually was my wife’s uncles truck for many years. Spent the last 8 or so years doing a whole lot of nothing. I bought it and gave it the old cleanup. These Fords tend to rust like no tomorrow, and in spots you can’t see or don’t look (rockers inner and outer, door bottoms, box and cab rails). I see 10 yr old Ford super duty’s fail inspection all the time for severe rust. This one is a clean unit, especially considering it’s 22 years old with 350k. Had it advertised for all of three hours before getting a deposit.

It the 7.3 diesel.

This is a 81 Mercury Zephyr. I bought it at an estate auction. Guy was a real fix it type and had all kids of unique vehicles. One was a small truck called a “Thames” apparently a British thing (was LHD). It was way more of a project than I was willing to take on, but nonetheless a really neat unit. Thankfully it went to a good home, and older British gent who plans to restore it.

Anyway the Zephyr….was the only car in the sale that was kept indoors, I thought that was a good sign. Only 2 pictures to go off of (internet sale) and zero information except the year and make. I had no idea what condition it was in before making the buy. Got it home and running. A battery and some fuel down the carb and the old 200 in-line 6 fired up. A day of cleaning and servicing and it turned out pretty good. The plate tags said 94, so she’d been resting awhile. Went for a drive today and it drove out well. Runs amazingly good, that 6 is very smooth.
The horns were my 5 yr old’s idea, he brought me them and said “these are for this car dad” lol. He tries to get me to mount them on every old car I get….this one I didn’t mind a few small holes in the hood.

Wow! That looks like cherry condition. Nice find. I bet someone would pay a small premium for it.

Well that probably hasn’t been done yet lol. [emoji6] since LS swaps are what everyone automatically does to these things.

Gotta keep it original. Might be worth big $$ at Barrett Jackson’s one day. Premium paid for the thrift master in-line 6 equipped cars!

That Zephyr is neat! I know nothing about them, but as someone pointed out in my Camry thread, there's just something to be appreciated about a well-preserved, plain jane sedan from yesteryear.

nice...the vision out of that Zephyr must be solid...the good old days when cars were designed with visibility in mind.  ;D

The 02 Silverado that my oldest son has been driving for the last year and half hasn’t missed a beat. He’s driven it nearly 50,000km! It’s knocking on 500,000 Km’s door. One, ONE repair in that time…a blend door actuator got stuck so he couldn’t turn the heat off this spring. Took him 15 minutes to fix.

Now the bad news….really bad news. It’s a nice, rust free truck on the outside, but the frame is junk. One of the spring hangers let go on him, this caused a shock mount to separate from its perch. When they got it up on a hoist and started poked and looking around they saw the crossmembers rotted through and a huge crack in the frame. Sad day for him as he really liked this truck.

Anyone need any Silverado parts lol?

That's like my F-150. It had over 300k km but rot did it in.

yeah, that's really unfortunate, looks like a great truck. I am familiar with that blend door actuator; center-right of the dash, drop the hush panel and it's right in your face, 3-screws and you're done, like they knew you'd have it change it, lol. It's more annoying in trucks with the big center console (Denali/Escalade), but still a fairly easy deal.

Can you replace the frame?  I have no idea if that's feasible on a truck with 500k on it.  I'm assuming that's a "no", otherwise you'd be doing it....

500k is a lot, wow. All kinds of oddball things could be on their way out by then. That's a pretty good run
