I owned a blue 1988 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24, V6 2.8L 4speed man posted here. Later, I believe came with V6 3.1L instead.
my buddy had a '91(?) with the 3.1 V6...in it's day, it was a pretty decent car...looked good, had some zip to it too.

Appears to share the design language of the same era’s Lumina.
Yeah my grand parents had that generation Lumina and it was as a very good GM sedan.  I think they had it for over 8 years and didn’t run into any issues.  Do you know if it’s the same platform and power train?

Hey Rev if you ever come across a early 90’s Chevy Chevalier 2 door V6 manual in decent shape I’ll but it from you.  It was my wife’s first vehicle so it would be a great throw back gift for her.  She loved that vehicle.
They have quite the following and actually quite desirable. Especially a V6 manual car. A little while back there was a 1990 cavalier coupe with the 3.1/5sp for sale locally. Was very basic, believe a/c and tilt. Was red with the rally wheels. If I find a decent one I’ll buy it!

Yes it likely was quite the sporty little coupe in its day.  By the time I came into her life she was getting rid of it because it was starting to cost her money in repairs.  She ended up with a Saturn coupe that she leased for something like $225 per month.  It was that model that had that 3rd door/ suicide door for the back seat access.  I don’t remember the model number but it was gutless, I think 110hp.

Nice looking Monte Carlo, I actually like these ones a lot better than the generation that followed. As you said, really nice highway cruisers.

I'm still owner of a 2001 Saturn SW2 (SW: Station Wagon, 2: DOHC), my "educated" guess is she had a SC1 (SC: Sport Coupe, 1: SOHC) :P

Yep looked it up and it was a 2001/2 Saturn SC1 manual base model with ac but no cruise control.  I was generous with my HP estimate as it was 100 and not 110.  The SC2 had about 25 more HP which doesn’t sound like much but I’m sure it made a world of difference.

My 1st one was a 1995 SW1. I learned from my mistake, you desire these 24 extra Hp !!  :D ;D

As per 2001 Saturn brochure
SOHC: 100Hp / 74,5 kW @ 5000rpm, 114 Lb-ft / 155 Nm @ 2400rpm
DOHC: 124Hp / 93,0 kW @ 5600rpm, 122 Lb-ft / 165 Nm @ 4800rpm

The old Ford is a barn find. An estate car that isn’t quite ready to be plucked from its resting spot (probate). Been sitting many years inside. Odd thing about BC is that I haven’t encountered a mouse car yet. You can’t let something sit for a few weeks in Alberta without mice invading. More on it soon!

On to something much more plebeian. The humble Toyota Yaris. I brought a truck down to Vancouver to the auction and instead of renting my ride home I bought a 2008 Yaris dealer trade in. I’ve made two trips down to Vancouver and back with it. Great little cars. It’s amazing how much refinement Toyota was able to squeeze into a inexpensive subcompact car. It’s quiet, zippy and sorta fun (mines a 5speed) rides surprisingly smooth, and everything feels high quality. I read some owner reviews on edmunds and they are very highly regarded. So if anyone is looking for a first car for their kid or a cheap runabout I’d highly recommend one.

^^^^ I second that!

Yaris are really underrated for what they are IMO.

My Echo was bulletproof and ridiculously cheap to run.

Yeah, those Yaris' are actually very good. I remember a good family friend had bought one when they were new, nearly 15-years ago. Even 17-18 year old Hire knew that it was a pretty good little econobox. More enjoyable than a Sentra or Aveo of that era, cheaper to insure than a Civic and less prone to premature rot than the Mazda3.

That ones pretty nice. Oddly optioned....leather (Corinthian no doubt) with crank windows! And those wheels are really strange. I do remember them on Chryslers but not many or for long.

I've driven mine now 4200 km without a hiccup. Been my daily all summer. I thought for sure I'd have some type of overheating in this +37 heat (and warmer) but so far she's been a trooper.

This one is a 2001 F150 SVT lightning. This most definitely is NOT to my taste, but it’s still rare and…..unique. It was a feature truck in Ford truck magazine when it was new. Has the supercharged 5.4 that made 360 hp. It would get solidly spanked by any new bone stock F150 with a 3.5 ecoboost, but she was king of the pickup truck hill back in its day. Needs a nickname, I’m thinking Johnny Lightning.

I think these trucks if kept stock will be future collectables.

Awesome find! Not my taste either, but these very era-specific show vehicles/builds have a certain appeal to me. I also agree that these round body Lightnings will (are?) be collectible, a friend of mine has a really well kept stock one in charcoal grey, nice truck....and I hate Fords, lol.
