Volt, with powertrain adapted to small CUVs, could have been quite the boost for GM.

Agree. There's going to be quite a while before pure electric takes over, and there's money to be made in the meantime.

Totally agreed, especially in the Canadian market where EV range takes a serious dump in cold weather. I had a Taycan a couple weeks ago that was doing 50-60% of rated range due to the cold, and this week I'm driving the Polestar 2 that's behaving similarly.

And it's not even super cold where you are.  Imagine how bad it is during the couple of months we have -20C to -35C in Manitoba/Saskatchewan/Northern Alberta.

Oh I completely agree. We are SO far from full electrification... and warm-weather range seems to be frozen in the ~400km range as well.

It's there for me, but only for 2nd vehicle status.  EV makes perfect sense for the daily commute, if only they can bring the price of the cars down to what you'd expect to pay for a cheap gasoline commuter like a Civic or a Corolla.  I don't want to pay >$45k for an EV hatchback like the Kona EV.  Until they can bring that price down to that of a gasoline car, ($25-30k), then it's a hard pass.

You're right. It works for me for the daily commute, and I've been bumming my mom's Kona EV here and there. I've also had a TON of EV testers in the past little bit. However, it ONLY works because my folks have a Level 2 in their garage. The infrastructure in the public here is absolute horse sh*t. Supposed "big" charging companies like ChargePoint and Electrify have about a 30% success rate of actually working.

Of course an EV  with 400 Km of summer range and down to ,say, 250 winter range at our normal -5 to -15  would work fine for me.   I am set up for a level 2 charge point in my garage and have been since 2013.   I have no idea what other charge points are in may are but their is a Tesla service place 20 km away in Kitchener with about 10 superchargers.

Still too much money.  86k + tax for a Y.

Twister! That’s what I’ve named this one. Just drove this 95 Ram 2500 home from Vancouver. Unfortunately a gas job. It’s a real beauty though, 144,000km and not a spot of rust anywhere. Sure shows what a full load “luxury” truck was 25 years ago compared to today.

Oh, that generation of RAM.

When I was a 12 year old kid in '94, I was in my Dad's S10 with him and we drove past a Chrysler dealer in Quebec.  My Dad saw a few of these trucks parked on the lot - they must have just come out, because he stopped the S10 and exclaimed 'what is that', and went to have a look.  A few months later, one weekend while we were at our seasonal RV site, my Dad told me to hop in the in the little blue 2wd S10, and that we were taking the truck to get painted red and have 4wd added (we had recently gotten it stuck on a little 4x4 trail down to a fishing lake - it must have frustrated the hell out of him).  I was a gullible child, so I believed him, and was confused when we arrived at a Chrysler dealer.  We went inside, and an hour later were pulling off the lot in a brand new '94 Dodge Ram in red, single cab, 5spd manual, 4x4, with the 318 V8.

That truck was pretty basic.  Manual everything, no AC, no cruise, steel wheels, and rubber floor.  It did have variable intermittant wipers though.  I remember because on the way back to the trailer we drove through a rainstorm, and the variable intermittent wipers impressed the hell out of him.

A few years later he upgraded to a '97 Ram 4x4 in Emerald Green, still with the 318, but this time with an automatic, and the 'king cab'.  This was the year before the rear suicide doors came out, so you still needed to slide the front seats forward to get in the back.  It was also a pretty basic truck, in that it still had no AC, no cruise (he had cruise added by the dealership a year later), manual everything.  BUT it had carpet and floor mats vs the red trucks' rubber floor.  Luxury!

These memories are probably why I have an affinity for trucks.  I still clearly remember the day we drove off the lot in that red Ram.  The smell of the interior.  The roar of the V8.  It has imprinted itself on me.

Oh baby, I love that... and yes, Twister is also the first thing that came to mind when I saw it.

It's like how I had a line on a beautiful green GMT400 Suburban last year and I said I'd get a personalized plate that said "MERIXMAS" (anyone remember Jingle All The Way?)...

Back in the day my cousin had a couple of these RAM's... first one was a 1995 regular cab, short box, 4x4, manual with the 360 V8... like this.

A few years later he traded it in for a 1998 2500 with the Cummins, quad cab long box... he eventually moved to Calgary & then BC with that one... think he even lifted it eventually & put 35's on it. It looked like this when he first got it. Was a beast of a vehicle, especially when he was going to school here in Ottawa & trying to navigate some of our downtown side streets when the snowbanks were 5' tall & the road was only wide enough for one car to pass thru all the parked cars.

That Cummins was a stroke of genius, really kept the RAM pickup brand alive around here.

You sure it was a 360? I was always under the impression that the only V8 manual you could get on the 1500 was with the 318.

I'm fairly certain it had the bigger motor, drove it several times & it hauled the mail pretty good! His 2500 Cummins also had a manual.

According to this there was no 360 + manual + half ton combo. https://www.dodgetalk.com/threads/1997-ram-1500-5-2l-w-manual-tran-motor-swap-to-5-9l-i-need-a-pcm.248930/
