The treasure trove of clean old vehicles in the south Okanagan is irresistible. Picked up this Grandma special 1990 Cadillac ELdorado on Thursday. Made the 700 km trip home without incident.

Not one of my favourites but can fully see why you grabbed it. Nice find.

I am actually with Quad on this one....Those downsized Caddy's are not high on my list for favorites, but given the condition of this one, and the fact that it's white with the gold package, I don't think I'd resist it either.

Hard to find this generation Yukon rust free. They’re getting really bad up our way including my silver one which is rusting out from the rockers pretty bad.

I bought this green 2004 from a couple in their 70’s in BC. It has 145k and in awesome shape. I really like this generation of Yukon, I find them very comfortable. The only thing bugging my ocd real bad is a few small door dings on the drivers door, they mustn’t have been very careful opening it. I added the wheels from a new Suburban (take offs). I’ll leave the rest alone for now.

I'd rock that Yukon in a heartbeat.  Love the new wheels, too.  Nice buy!

Fantastic! Wheels are perfectly suited to it as well. Obviously I am a bit biased, but I love this generation of big GM SUVs too - I find them significantly more comfortable, and generally more reliable, than the generation that followed.
Still lots around in the GTA, most of them are heavily rotten, but still kicking.

That thing is in fantastic shape....I would rock that in a heartbeat. Like Firm, I believe this gen of trucks/suvs was much better screwed together and painted than the bankruptcy era that came after it.
Lighten up Francis.....

So, is it a 5.3?  Or was GM still rocking the 5.7 in those days?

No, thats a 5.3, that era of truck only came with the LS based engine, 5.3/6/8.1

So out west, in the land of rust-free GMT800s, what's a 153k Yukon XL worth?

I have recently developed a HUGE soft spot for Yukons and would seriously buy one, but I'd want a 2016+ Denali for the modern amenities, and to one-up Firm's Escalade  ;D

The 2015+ are the cats ass. I’d love one but they hold their value like crazy, out of my range $$. GMT800’s in decent shape are $5k plus, Denali and Escalades are a few grand more. We had a 2010 Yukon Denali, I loved the power but found the ride downright punishing with the factory 22’s and just tolerable with 20’s. I also much prefer the rack and pinion steering on the gmt900’s (07-up). But for overall comfort and fuel economy the 800’s are tough to beat. They’re also stupid reliable.

Yeah they last forever lol. Many with 500-thousand plus still going. One of my boys friends drives his parents 3/4 ton 6.0 around and it has 550,000, original engine and transmission, only the t-case has failed. I also really like the Escalade style in this era.

My father has a 2005 Yukon Denali (SWB) that I wouldn't mind owning. I love that 6.0L burble.

Picked this up today. A first generation CR-V, I love these things. They’re so simple with amazing utility, also great drivers. It’s hard to find one fairly clean with low(ish) km @189k. Got a great deal because it’s miss firing. A common issue on the B20 engine is burnt valves from not regularly checking the valve clearances. Fingers crossed my exhaust valves are out, but if not it’s off with its head! Car just had a new timing belt 20k ago too.

I set out to find a nice highway cruiser. Back and forth to BC will extend into October now, currently driving a 2007 Impala for this task. Nothing wrong with the Impy, but it’s as exciting as a bowl of All Bran.

I started looking for a nice LS Lexus. A 97 popped up through the dealer auction that was severely rusted underneath-up, then a nice 2006 LS 430 with 190k, thought it was a winner but it turned out to be a rebuilt title with a $38,000 hit in 2007. Scratch that as I wanted some resale possibilities (it was very nice looking though) It ended up selling for $5700 which I thought was too high for a rebuilt car.

So last week a 2011 Genesis 4.6 comes up. It had 108,000 km, clean carfax, and a strong 4.0 auction grade (grade is 1-5, a 4 is considered better than average with nothing more than minor wear or scratches). Wonderful Hyundai resale had me high bid at $6800, the seller came back wanting $8500 (traded in at a Lexus dealership) After looking online I figured at $8500 I couldn’t go wrong so I agreed to meet their reserve pending inspection (car was sold green light which means after sale inspection is mandatory and anything needing more than $750 to fix you can deny the deal or re-negotiate with the seller)

That’s where the deal went sideways. Car had a timing chain rattle (over $750) a rear main seal leak, and a noise  at highway speeds from the rear diff. It was also noted the passenger power window was inoperable. Wow, guess that’s why it was traded off. The selling dealer decided to pull the car from the sale pending their own inspection and we went our own ways. I was bummed, that was a awful lot of car for under 10k and it sure is rare, and from what I’ve read, powerful and a nice drive.

So, what I ended up with is so completely different. It old, belonged to someone who was old, would only be purchased new by someone who was old, and considered the last dying gasp of a car that was basically obsolete even when new. But hey, it’s RWD, has a big V8, and eats up highway miles like nobody’s business. It won’t be any fun at all in the twistys, but whatever, I’m not in any hurry anyway.

If you’ve read this far I’m sure you’ve guessed it’s Domestic and a boat. Since I like GM’s this fits pretty well. It’s a 92 Roadmaster! The car has been extremely well looked after, body and interior in great shape. It’s the limited model, that includes the 16 way power seats and many other luxuries. It’s so isolated going down the road that it’s almost too quiet and smooth.

The big 350 moves it along adequately (unfortunately it’s not the Vette motor available from 94-on) and it shifts perfectly. At 120k it’s turning about 1900 rpm, so it should get decent fuel economy.

I’ll post more once I get it all cleaned up. Note the Uniroyal “nail guard” tires lol. It’ll be needing those replaced right away (they haven’t sold those since 2003). I can’t fault the mechanicals, I’d service it and drive to Florida without hesitation.
