So are you a private buyer/seller/dealer?  Or waat?  What happens when you move to BC?  Will this line of work (it is work, isn't it?) still...work?

I've been a licensed dealer for years now. For 11 years I managed a heavy truck dealership and went out on my own about 5 years ago doing the buy/sell/broker thing. The cars I post are certainly not all I've had through the years. I  haven't found my numerous old SD cars yet with many more cars/trucks on them.

The move to BC has about everything to do with the purchase of a automotive based business. More to come this spring!

Big issue with the LT1 is the optispark. When the water pump leaks they damage the distributor that lives UNDER it. The distributor has no vent so they trap moisture (GM fixed this in 95 or 96 iirc) Damage can come apparent months after the waterpump gets replaced so owners often don't associate the poor running with previous water pump leaks. I bought a billet accel unit for less than the cost of a GM replacement.

These things rattle and creek like a old city bus

They run hotter than a normal SBC like what you have been used to in the Camaro/Firebird. They're supposed to, they are reverse flow coolers. I recall freking out the first hot day with the temp gauge climbing quite high before the fans kicked on,

Check the heater core! These cars don't often get used in cold weather and ofen the heaters have never been used. I turned on my heater one day and got a nasty spray of steam. BIG job to replace!

All in all these are just typical Chevy, interiors are el-cheapo deluxe and electrics can be fussy. Mechanically they're pretty darn easy to wrench on. The big clamshell hood really helps (plugs are a bit of a pain) They are reliable too, never had a big issue with mine (after replacing the opti) Decent highway cars capable of eating up miles in comfort.

Join a Corvette club and autoX it. Lotsa fun! Our Calgary club rocked, plenty of gatherings and events. Surprisingly not all old men with chest hair and gold chains! I was 29 when I bought this and was still not the youngest member.

The bodys crack easily. I got a crack in the door from my kid slamming it really hard  :nono:

Don't buy a black one unless all you want to do is clean it. They are not a weekend power polish type friendly car. Fiberglass requires a certain finesse, I learned the hard way.

How many times do mechanical engineers have to be told to not put water over electricity!  >:( ;D

Had one power plant where a leaky urinal dripped through the floor into a 4160v breaker in the electrical room beneath. They found the ~300kg exploded breaker on the floor in front of the cubicle it used to be in.

Thanks, very helpful.

I am familiar with the Optispark and warmer operating temps from the 97 Camaro SS (LT1 as well).

How about electricity IN water?
In my buddy's 540i, the alternator is liquid cooled.

^Another problem with Vettes is bad electrical grounds, a friend had one with lots of blinking lights.

A good friend has this van and I want it.......it's an old Subaru 360, not running but was thinking a VW TDI swap would be epic. May be "mine" because I really need another project lol. Think it would be a fantastic beater rally competitor.

It was actually running before he put it up on that seacan, said it wouldnt rev up much and smoked a ton. They came with a 2cyl 2 stroke 360cc engine, smaller than the average 4wd quad. The more I think about it the more I'd like to keep the thing stock. Apparently they'll do 60 mph even.

I don't need projects so I'll keep you in the know of whats going on with it.

9 months and just over 20,000 km put on the Caravan. The repair bill sits at $175 for the replacement of a leaky power steering hose and I replaced a worn out tie rod end that cost $45. Still runs well, uses about 1 litre of oil between changes (been lazy as the last oil change is nearing 10k ago) This was a good investment as a second vehicle for the boys to bomb around in. It’s also handy for me to drive to Calgary, fairly easy on fuel and I don’t mind if she gets “miled out” lol.

641,777 km.

That's driving to the moon once and 2/3rds of the way back to Earth.  Not bad!
